I did find a old lyman manual that shows 6 gr of w-231 as max, but the loading chart from Lee shows 4.1 gr of W-231 as max for the same bullet.

Just received coated bullet samples from Missouri bullet company. Their m1 carbine bullets definitely have much more favorable ogive profile. The 0.309" bearing area is much bigger. Loaded up a few dummies and fed them to the broomhandle. It made huge difference. Hardly any detectable set back after several loadings and unloadings. Can't wait to try them in the range.

Some update. Test fired 2 loads with the coated bullets. They all performed beautifully. No set back or feeding problems. 2" group at 10yd, shot one-handed bullseye stance. The bullet is a keeper. Will put in order for 250 more.

Finally got a load to work, 5.3 grains of W-231, functions great, no signs of over pressure, and recoil feels the same as a factory load.
