Match grade .223 62 grain needed
I have searched many location but have not been able to find a real accurate FMJ BT 62 grain .223 bullet. The steel core penetrators are junk. I want FMJs but super accurate. Some years back, I got some so-called match grade 62 grained from Widners. They were made by IMI, but they were not as accurate as I had anticipated for so-called "match" bullets.
If anybody out there has a web address, please respond. Thx! |

Your not going to find "match" FMJ bullets cause i doubt they exist. All match bullets are hollow points. Just get some bullets and try a bunch of different loads on each to see whats the most accurate out of your gun.

60gr Varmiter by Sierra shoots extremely well out of my Del-ton and Mini-14. I know Armscorp or Privi Partisan makes a 62gr bullet for reloading but I dont think its a match bullet. I dont think the 855's were made to be match accurate but I have shot some and gotten good accuracy before.
Im not sure if anyone makes a 62gr match bullet. |

Here's a surprise, the Sierra 63gr semi point groups a whole lot better in my AR than the Sierra 69gr match king.

As stated above FMJ bullets are not Match grade.

I shoot the 65gr SGK out of my AR and have superb accuracy, IMO. After much work I came up With this load: LC brass, CCI41 primer, 24.5gr of H335, 65gr SGK. Sub moa at 100yds prone with just a sandbag and a 3X scope. As most say, if you want to try this work up this load.
The sierra game king isn't a match bullet or a fmj, but I guess you can say in between!

No one makes a match grade FMJ because no one shoots FMJ in target matches. I also expect that FMJ's are less inherently accurate than hollow points due to manufacturing issues. Years ago the US military shot "match" FMJ's in 30 caliber. This was because their factories were set up to make Hague convention bullets. The FMJ's they made were OK but are horrible compared to SMK's. By the time you get into the 80's, only a few people were shooting FMJ's and that was only in preparation for Leg matches where you were issued LC Match ammunition. Once LC bought 168 SMK's and installed them on LC Match ammunition, that was the end of the 174 FMJBT bullet.

What others have said about the 63 gr Sierra SMP and the 65 gr Sierra GK being very accurate certainly agree with what I've seen. The 63 grain worked great in my 220 Swift and the 65 gr works great in my 223. And the 65 grainer shot better than I could make the 69 gr SMK shoot in my 223.

Slamfire and others.
Then what does military use in their sniper M40s and others. They can't use hps. And, they damn sure have to be accurate. |

they do use the match king HP because there's an exception to the expanding bullet rule with 'match' grade purposes.
also sniper's accuracy requirements are different to yours. I believe they have a 2 MOA requirement and more emphasis on first shot POI accuracy. The hornady v-max is about the most accurate FMJ ive come across. |
