7.5x55 question

How many times can I reload a case ???? And will the Lee set of dies work with the .284 winchester cases most of the people here use ????

The number of times a case can be reloaded depends on 2 things:
1) how hot your loads are
2) how much your sizing dies squeezes the case neck.

If your loads are hot, the primer pockets can get too loose to hold a new primer. Once that happens its time to trash the brass.

If your dies squeeze the neck down too much, the brass will work harden and crack after a few reloadings. You'll know when you reach that point when the neck splits down the side or breaks off completely. Work hardening can be delayed by annealing the necks with a propane torch until they barely turn dull red in a darkened room and then dropping them in a bucket of cold water. Anneal every 2 or 3 reloadings.

Just curious, why are you forming Win 284 when 7.5x54 brass is available from Graf & Sons?

I use .284Win brass and Lee dies. So I know that combo works.

I have 4 loadings on my oldest brass. No signs of wear, yet. I'm guessing I can go 4 more loadings? I do not load hot. My loads are a little under .308 Win. levels. A 150gr. bullet at 2600fps or so.

I discard cases when they need the third trim. I get 2-5 shots per trim, depending on a myriad of factors, in most bottle neck cartridges. I don't bother to anneal until I get a couple of neck splits in that lot.

Most of the rifles that I shoot with bottlenecked cases are rather old so I use low powered loads. I find that for most half the cases have split at the neck after 15 reloads.

For the newer stuff with hotter loads and straight walled cases I've yet to loose any significant number. I reloaded my 45-90 brass, for example, 35 times with no significant losses. A friend claims he loaded his 45-70 brass 65 times without significant losses.

Same goes for straight walled pistol cases. Since I've got a lot more pistol brass the number of reloads per case is less, probably between 12 to 15 times, but once again there have been no significant losses.

Sizing .284 w/ Hornady Dies

Anyone here using the Hornady dies to resize .284 for 7.5 x 55 for use in K31?
How do you like those dies for the resizing, and what lube do you use?
