9MM OAL ?

I am reloading 9MM for the first time (been loading mostly .40)
I picked up some 124G FMJs from Precision Delta and I got a
Lb of Universal......Gonna start at 4.2-4.3g of powder
but I whats a good COL start point ? Hogdon does not show a 124g bullet only a 125g bullet and at 1.09 COL - seems kinda short ? I was thinking 1.15 is where I want to be (assuming it feeds)

You can load longer, just do not load shorter. 9mm just like .40 S&W is a very high pressure round, and not very forgiving if seated to deeply.

If you’re starting out don’t load long use the number that the manufactures suggest. If you load long you can have feeding problems.
The following HODGDON web site has 124 GR FMJ listed at 1.169 COL.
My suggestion is to contact the manufacture and ask them.
At 30,000 CUP the9mm is not a VERY high pressure round but loading short can cause very high pressures so don’t load short.
The following site also shows for a 125 GR with Universal (which you can use for your 124) a min 4.3 max 4.9 so your starting at minimum load, that is a good start but with my experience with 9mm at those light loads, don’t expect great accuracy at those low power levels. But again that IS a good place to start.

If the following is the bullet you’re using I would keep the COL between 1.169 and the 1.090 listed for a 125 FMJ, keep an eye out for pressure and have fun.

Whatever feeds reliably and loads in your magazines without binding.

I'm the exception. My cast boolits are loaded at 1.00 for my CZ 75BD, with low/mid powder charges. It *can* be done.

I figure since Im just shooting paper @15-25 feet
1.16 should be fine at MIN load recommendations...
I did not see a 124g on Hogdons sight because they for some apparent
reason did not include that 124g load for not a single Hogdon powder only winchester WSF which is prolly what I want anyways,9MM loaders love that powder

I am chomping at the bit to load and shoot the 9s but
I can always count on the bullet mfg to take my money and then NOT tell
me I have to wait 2 weeks on my delivery because they are out of stock
Next time I call ahead first -

Suggest you field strip your gun down to the bare barrel, and use it as a cartridge guage. Make a dummy round (no primer and no powder), and see what OAL drops in and drops out of the chamber (with no binding whatsoever). I load 9mm with 115gr RN, and what works best in mine is 1.156"
