I just got a NIB Camp Defender. Seems to be a real nice gun except the action is very rough. Usually after the third or fourth shot, it takes a lot of force to pull the slide back. After cleaning it, I can see that there are a lot of scratches and gouges on the back of the bolt. Does this just need to be broken in or does it need repair or service?? Thanks!!!!!

Kinda hard to diagnose from here, but...

Break it down, clean it thoroughly, then lube it with a very light coat of Gunslick or other moly grease, then wipe off as much as possible. Reassemble and try. While it may just need a little break in time, if the problem doesn't fix itself in a box or two of shells, return it to the dealer.

If the rough spot is where the bolt slides across the hammer on recock. You can take the bolt and smooth up with proper stoning tools and dremel tool. Be very careful not to take off too much. Insert standard disclaimer here.
