'Pre-Ban' production ends at serial #....?
The rifle is a Colt HBAR. The seller, a neighbor, says it is a 'pre-ban'. Is that a good thing?...why/why not?...
At what point in the serial number sequence did 'pre ban' become 'post ban'? Thanks, salty

pre ban colt
Yes it is a good thing if you live in a restrictive state like new york, conn ,new jersey, mass etc.call colt directly with serial number and they will give you date when your ar was made, prior to sept 1994 you have pre ban gun after it is a post ban. regards Marc

pre ban configuration or built before 1994 awb went into effect-that's the question.

I'm pretty sure a Colt "post-ban" ARs would be missing the flash hider. Which would be an easy way to spot one.

I have a post (1994) ban Colt HBAR 1in7 twist. My rifle does not have the flash suppressor or the bayonet lug. None of the Colt HBARs post-ban have the flash suppressor or the bayonet lug.
Personally, the flash suppressor and the bayonet lug don't do a thing for me. It's not like I'm going to be fixing bayonets and charging up a hill anytime soon. Otherwise this rifle shoots the Sierra 77gr HPBT into 1/2 MOA. That's what really counts for me. |

I think we are getting our terms confused are we not? Pre ban would be prior to the Ban beginning in Sept '94. Post ban would ban anything after Sept '04. The only ones that still wouldn't have a suppressor on it should be those built for sale in a state that continued the ban after '04 such as NY, NJ, CA, etc. At least this is my understanding.

Slappy, your quote follows:
"I think we are getting our terms confused are we not? Pre ban would be prior to the Ban beginning in Sept '94. Post ban would ban anything after Sept '04." And what do you term the period of the 10 year ban? |

If I remember right, 94-04 production rifles were called post-ban. After September 2004, I've been calling them no-ban.
I wonder what we'll call them in a few months. Last edited by IMtheNRA; January 16, 2013 at 11:38 PM. |

amazing, especially on a gun forum, to me that is like saying, 20 - 30 round mags, pistol grip and scope don't do a thing for me !! |

The flash suppressor and bayonet lug don't do anything for me either. I have no problem with them and don't want them banned. I personaly don't have a specific need for them.
