RR, Scroll thru the shotgun section a couple pages and the ammo question is answered numerous times...
00 buck is likely the most common HD round. Brent |

Check online for spare barrels- you can always buy a cheap used one of any length and have it cut to 18 1/2-20 inches.
Ammo choice - 00 buck to #4 buck for inside house use, depending on your situation- i prefer 00. A few boxes of slugs for hunting game or outside the house dfensive use give you a bit more capability. |

I have a a macerick 88 security w/ a 20" barrel and I think it handles pretty decent indoors. If you really want a shorter barrel I'm sure that you can find one on www.gunbroker.com or www.gunsamerica.com
As far as what to load it with, I'm kinda partial to fiocchi low recoil 00 buck. Its nickel plated and patterns ~6" at 12 yards in my shotgun. I like it since it is inexpensive and I can practice more with it! You can get 200 rounds for ~ $115 at www.sportsmansguide.com |

if your going to use a shotgun for home defense i would say #1 buck. you get 18 pellets i belive 30 cal over just 9 of 32 cal in the #00 buck. at close ranges of indoors i would take the double the 30 cal wounds.

IMO, 22 to 18.5 is really not worth the expense - spend the $$$ on ammo and practice....do a search, as mentioned, and you'll find 00 Buck the most popular, but definitely not the ONLY choice that will work

My HD 870 has a 20" barrel and it seems to manuver pretty well, I'd just leave the 22" barrel alone. Besides, the longer barrel will let you put a larger mag extension on it.
http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_pa...7&NewProduct=0 As far as ammo, I'd go no finer than BB Shot and no coarser than No. 1 Buck. My 870 is loaded with 3" No. 4 Buck. |

Pattern with 00 and buy lots of whatever is the tightest and then shoot it plenty.
Your shotgun will hold up its end. You are the weakest link. And so am I. Practically any reliable repeating shotgun will do the job if we do ours. |
