I want a 45 acp handgun. What are my options?

To specify, I already have a 1911 so I'm looking for something different. I would like it to be a modern design, very reliable, and would like to be able to find magazines without too much trouble. Suggestions?

I'd also like the parts to be fairly easy to come by should something break on me. This is just meant to be a HD gun so reliability is king followed by accuracy followed by cost of parts. I know it's a bit of a tall order but I'm coming up blank with my searches.

These are what come to mind off the top of my head.

Any of these will do you good, all are ultra reliable, it's up to you to choose which will work best. The SR45 is fairly new so parts availability will be slim. The Sig 220 and the Glocks will probably have the best parts availability out of all listed. I prefer DA/SA so I would personally go with the Sig 220, but if you like polymer striker fired guns the Glock or M&P are great choices. Also out of all the pistols listed the Sig is the only one with interchangeable grips if that is something you are looking for.

My suggestion is an HK45/HK45C.
Mine should be here in a week.
If my P30-L is any indication I'll be very happy with the 45.
I'm not a fan of Glocks even though they are reliable.

I carry a PT745 sometimes and nightstand duty. Never had a FTF, FTE with FMJ or HP. Comes with two mags 6+1 $350.

I like my Glock 30,i have fired thousands upon thousands of rounds through it and have never had a FTF or any other issue. Mags are also easy to get along with parts,i know some hate Glocks but they are reliable.

mags easy to find and reasonably priced and both of my XDM have been flawless with about 7k thru them.

As a member of SNM (Sons of Neanderthal Man) I always recommend a steel frame-the CZ for current production, a friend swears by his S&W 645.

I have a glock 36 and I like it alot. I was able to find extra magazines for it also quite easily.

HK45 for sure. Mags were hard to find for a while, but they've been in stock on Midway for over a month now, so I'm assuming they have quite a few (sold out in 10 minutes the shipment before this one).

The HK45 is THE best .45ACP pistol on the planet today. The HK45c if carry will be a possibility, but the ergos on the full-size are much better.

Use it DA/SA, or use it like a 1911, whatever you're comfy with.

The ability to take a fullsize weapon light is definitely a plus for the fullsize though.

There are so many choices, your best bet might be to go to a range that rents guns and try out as many as you can. You will probably find one that stands out from the pack.

I have a bunch of .45s and they all bring something a little different to the table. One of the least used ones is also one of the best. The Springfield XDM is really a NICE gun. Sadly, it gets overlooked a lot.

I have the G21 and G30 and they are rock solid.

One of the guns I do take to the range a lot is the P220. It is a little heavy and a little bulky but it runs like a champ. If you have not shot one, you should. I don't care for the alloy frames much. I like the SS guns.

I have several 1911's but for home defense the Sig P220 is first choice.
I prefer the double action first shot feature, seems less likely to have an accidental discharge than the 3lb. single action trigger pull of a 1911, I've also come to appreciate the decocker action. Mine is the stamped steel slide variety which makes it light. Of the newer offerings the CZ 97D has caught my eye, I've yet to handle one but based on the two CZ 9's I have I'm betting it's a winner.

My personal favorite is the FNX45, but parts are limited right now. If you're looking for modern with easy accessibility then I'd go with the Glock (even though I'm not a fan) because of all the aftermarket out there.

If you're looking for something that's similar in functionality to a 1911 that's modern I'd go with FNX 45 (again, my personal choice and you can carry it cocked and locked), Sig Sauer, HK, any of the Ruger P series, etc.

I would suggest the XD45 as a good choice. 2006 gun of the year.
Not competitive for certain competition challenges such as weak hand shooting only at a timed or moving target, but a viable competent carry and protection side arm.
