Hello all,

First post, but I've been lurking for a while. I'm also in the market for a 9mm with the idea of eventually CC once I get more comfortable and get mor range time.

I'm curious why no one has mentioned Walther - either the PPQ or P99?

I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but I've read good things about both (though I haven't had the chance to fire either).

I used to carry a LC9 but now carry the LCR in nice weather or my p-95 in cool weather clothing.

lol c'mon now...look at my thread. Why did you have to comment on this one? Welcome to TFL! check out my thread and hit the "search" bar for any reviews on the PPQ. I liked mine a lot today. First time out with it.

But, on a more serious note, I'd look at the Glock 19 or 26 as well as the FNX9.

I'll recommend any 9mm you can hit the target with and that has a comfortable grip and trigger for a carry. Make sure it's reliable before stuffing it in your waistband as well. If you can't make it to the range every week at least once, I recommend going for a compact rather than a subcompact and as much training as you can squeeze in.

I personally carry a Glock because it fits all of that criteria for me. My second choice would be a toss up between the M&P9 and the PPQ.

Constantine - didn't mean to suggest that Walther got no love. I enjoyed your range report yesterday (and glad I'm not the only one getting hosed on ammo prices).

I was just wondering if there was something about the PPQ or the P99 that made it a poor choice for OPs criteria.

It seems as though there is no reason, just didn't get mentioned because it's was mentioned elsewhere.

I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but my SR9c gives me the best of both worlds - a great, reliable 9mm that is incredibly easy to conceal. I have a Comp-Tac minotaur IWB holster that just makes it blend into my side.

I carry the LC9 in my pocket. So far mine hasn't missed a lick. Not a target gun but very accurate after you get used to the long trigger pull. I shoot it better than my 642 in rapid fire, about the same slow fire.

If you want tiny, get an LCP. If you want more substance, get an LC9 or a P290.

Regarding the PPQ or P99 for concealed carry:

I tend to advocate finding something you can *always* carry, first. Once you have that covered, finding alternative options for cold weather can be fun.

The PPQ and P99AS are slightly larger than a Glock 19. As much as I love them, they are a little chunky for year-round carry. With heavy clothes, it's considerably easier. If you wear heavy clothing often, these are great options. Still, I wouldn't carry my PPQ every day. My SR9c is considerably more comfortable to pack.

When I do carry, I alternate my standard arm (a S&W M36 with a 3" barrel) with a Sig P290. The Sig's got their version of Tritium night sights and offers a slim profile for an OWB holstered piece. It weighs 20 oz. with a six round magazine in place...a bit much for a pocket piece in my opinion, but great on the belt. Best Regards, Rod

What do you mean a ccw isn't for fun. Why would anyone get a gun that wasn't fun to shoot? Are you going to practice with it? And if you practice with (and you should) don't you want to have fun doing it? I carry my SR9c and I have a blast shooting it.

I understand why some people don't like the Taurus name, but they haven't been a throw away brand for quite some time. I own a PT92 and a 24/7 compact G2 9mm and absolutely love them. I went for the Taurus over the Beretta because of the transferable lifetime unlimited warranty and haven't regretted it a bit. I've fired at least a thousand rounds out of both and never had problem with either one no matter what brand ammo. The 24/7 has so many features I liked and conceals fairly easy while providing 14 rounds to work with. Don't let the old reputation steer you away from looking at a Taurus, you might be surprised with how accurate and reliable they are.

the best and most comfortable/concealable for me is
my FN P9, lighter than any other full size I have tried, accuracy unmatched.
It is a Browning. I am 160 and 5' 10
