Made a rifle vise....
My better half sprained her ankle a while back and the saw bones gave her some crutches to hobble around on.
I saw some components in this pair of crutches which really needed to be pu to better use than Eleanor's mobility. So I cannibalized the pads and made a rifle vise. 1/4 x 20 all thread for the clamp screw. The wood is rock maple from an old crib. I bought the crib at a yard sale for five bucks and am still using the steel and the wood. Thankfully, the kid did not come with the crib. (I hate kids) This is another view of the clamp mechanism Here are a coupla shots with the trapdoor in it. Eleanor's ankle is doing fine without the crutches. She needed to stay off of it anyway.

Doc - sorry to hear about your better half's ankle - hopefully it is much better now.
Your imagination certainly produced a nifty rifle vise! That looks like it is just the berries to clamp a long gun in and work on it. Just think of what you could possibly make if you found a wooden leg and a two legged goat at a garage sale!? By the way . . . those 45/70s are "lookin' goooood!"

Thanks, Three Bs
One of these trapdoors is going to be for sale. Prolly the last one when I finish it up.
I can rationalize needing two of them but not three. I am hoping to sell one for enough to make a dent in a 66 or 73 Winchester clone. I have one set of crutches left for another vise but the wood will have to be poplar since I am now cribless.

Regarding the ankle...
My wife milked it for all of the sympathy she could get.
She went to church on Wednesday night two weeks ago for the congregation to pray over it. She is a bible thumper from way back and she told me that the "laying on of the hands" helped. I told her it was getting off those crutches so the thing got some exercise that fixed it. I also told the preacher to keep his hands to his self or there'd be some additional laying on of the hands that would not be for healing.

Eleanor just read my post of yesterday at 3:21...
It is a good thing I have another pair of crutches.
This time they are for me.

Nice vise. Hope Eleanor doesn't lay her hands on your throat.

Thanks you guys
Thanks, Bill.
Gary, Of course all of the stuff I posted about her were outrageous lies except for the fact that she hurt her ankle and thumps the bible pretty hard. We got a pretty good chuckle out of it when she read the post.

Bush...
I get to shoot in the house too.
But it isn't the revolvers I am shooting off, it is my mouth.
