"Twenty two.... EL ARR"
I say LR sometimes and I'd go against you for backwoods, old school gun knowledge any day! What if he has just purchased his first firearm and just learned about the caliber that day?
Don't worry so much about tiny, unimportant stuff. Elitist attitudes don't grow the shooting sports. Does it also bother you when people say Ey-Cee-Pee (ACP) instead of Automatic Colt Pistol? |

Probably was me. Just about every box of .22lr I buy says ".22 LR" on the box. It doesn't say "long rifle". I think most people know that if I ask for LR it stands for long rifle.

"Twenty two .... EMM" "Twenty two .... ESS" Or, maybe he's a pirate and likes saying ARR..... I have no problem with saying or hearing el arr

...or maybe he's a new shooter who wants to be sure he's asking for the right thing.
As opposed to .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 CB's, or whatnot. No point in mocking him.

Glad to have someone new to the sport. Perhaps he didn't have a dad that took him shooting as a kid. Maybe he drinks light beer, I don't know why he's ignorant of the proper terminology but we need more like him taking up responsible gun ownership.

Good thing he didn't ask for 45 Long Colt. He would probably have been shot or flogged at the least.

Sounds like an awfully fine nit to pick. Do you also get mad when somebody says 9mm without saying Luger, Parabellum, Makarov, Short, or Magnum after it?

This seems utterly silly. Why are we supposed to say "Long Rifle" instead of "L.R." but it's OK to say "A.R." instead of "Armalite Rifle"?

We all started from the same place and some of us are still no better than when we started.

Wow, are you serious? What's wrong with pronouncing the letters of an acronym? Someone needs to get a life. I know tempers are high right now because of the 22 shortage but this...

Alas, I have no life. I have been murdered by people who don't look at the smileys.
Oh, and for "Long Colt" I'd expect "Elsie." Unless that was his wife. Sorry for the post. |

Yes, it's true.... "What we've got here is failure to communicate."
Too bad.
