I see what you are saying Mauser. They aren't going to mess with an offset barrel system either. I could definitely see that shaving a round or two off the capacity.

I just checked on my laptop and see the pictures John Posted. They do look pretty similar.

Here's some nice video reviews.
The two things that I'm most impressed with on this gun is that they made mechanical changes to the trigger to keep it at about 9 pounds in DA. Anyone who has shot their sp101-22 will realize that is a real accomplishment. The other thing that tells me they paid attention to detail is that they set the cylinder gap at .004. .22 revolvers need a smaller cylinder gap to maintain accuracy or they tend to spit lead. https://youtu.be/fr8yuGzEl78 http://www.guns.com/2015/12/10/ruger...ffering-video/ |

After some work, I managed to get the 15lbs + DA trigger on my .22LR SP101 down to a very smooth pull that's between 13 & 14lbs. Just polishing and shimming. No spring changes.

I sent my sp101-22 in for some warranty work (cylinder gap and alignment issues) and they polished up the action and actually gave it a lighter hammer spring but it's still substantially heavier than my gp100 357.
I'm excited to try this gp100. Maybe I'll pick one up and do a review/comparison with the sp101. |

So I ended up buying a gp100 in .22lr last week and had a chance to take it to the range on Thursday. I also brought my sp101-22 to compare. Ruger says in some of their videos that the new GP100 in .22 has a lighter trigger but I'm not so sure. It has a smooth trigger but it's a little heavy. My sp101-22 trigger is a little lighter. However, in fairness I have put more than 35,000 rounds through my sp101-22 and dry fired it lots more so the spring is a lot more broken in. I replaced the trigger return spring in the gp100-22 with one from Wolff that I had on hand and that did lighten it some.
I'm hopeful that the trigger in the gp100 will lighten up with some use. I tried swapping out the hammer spring for a center fire 14 pound stock one but I got light primer strikes about one fifth of the time that way so I swapped it back. Once I started shooting the gp100-22 was awesome. I love the front sight. I love the grip. I bench rest tested it and shot comparative strings with the sp101-22 and it is substantially more accurate than the sp101. Shooting from a rest in single action the gp100 was consistently producing three inch groups at twenty five yards while the sp101 was doing about five inch groups. Doing some rapid fire strings with a draw narrowed the difference between the two but I chalk some of that up to me getting used to a new gun. The gp100 was still producing better groups in rapid fire. I bought the gp100-22 as Training gun to save on ammunition costs and it will fill that role nicely. Overall I'm quite pleased. Here's a pic. |

What's the appeal of .22LR revolvers?
I'm not saying I don't like them. As a rule, I like revolvers and I'd happily try one, I'm just curious why large portions of the TLF board go utterly doo-lally when a full-size revolver in .22LR becomes available. I guess I just associate revolvers with .38Spl and above. So what is the appeal?

James Pond, the reason I have 22 revolvers is for training. I compete with revolvers in my local league and if I were to only shoot 38 special in practice I would soon be broke. Now you might ask "Why not just reload?" Well I have five small children and a demanding job so I don't have a lot of spare time or extra room in my home for reloading. So I shoot about 2\3 22lr and 1\3 of whatever else I am shooting that day at the range and I go to the range a few times a week on my lunch break. It works for me.
Reasons other folks might also like 22 revolvers: They are great kit guns. You can shoot a lot for cheap. They are a great learning tool for the recoil sensitive. Just 'cause. |

With a .22revolver, even if the ammo isn't great, it's unlikely you'll ever have to do anything more than discard a dud or two and that happens automatically when you dump the empties.

I too was curious to what the appeal was for a GP100 in .22 as there is already a very nice Single Six available that does everything that at least ' I ' need doing in the .22LR cartridge.... That said, now I know where some of the .22LR has been going (35,000 referenced above) and why cheap bulk isn't yet found in stores .

I admit it looks really nice and I can see how it would make a great camping/trekking piece, much like the LCRx line.
Thinking about it, I could be convinced... ...it is a Ruger revolver after all!!

I have revolvers from 10mm up to 44 mag. Getting more time behind the trigger makes a full sized 22lr revolver a smart buy. But a Dan Wesson 722 used is my poison.
