Star model BS Help

I have a star model BS that i just got. The problem i am having is that the slide release engages after every shot. if i hold it down with my finger while i shoot it shoots perfect.

Now the slide release is a half a hair to small i think because it will fall out with no force, it is actually being held in by a cotter pin. So should i have to find a new part or could i just file off the part that engages the slide stop. Oh and it is just for range and around the house use not ccw.

I don't believe it's supposed to be held in with a cotter pin (that's the 1st time I've seen that field repair).

You pic isn't clear enough, but it looks like the little tip that extends above the thumbpiece, and is supposed to ride inside the slide, thus retaining the stop until the slide is manipulated by hand so that the small "U" notch in the slide's lower LH edge aligns with the tip, and the stop can be pressed out from the other side via pressing on the end of it's axle pin.

I would suggest you try the various parts vendors, like Numrich, Wisner's, Bob's, etc - and obtain a replacement slide stop.

On the OTHER END, there should be a hole. In this hole should be a spring and plunger. It doesn't appear to be there.

Bill is right, you are missing the detent spring and pin. Easy enough to make one if you know how.

And that is not a cotter pin.

It sounds like it's time for you to get busy, and work this list of Star Pistol Parts purveyors for a slide stop.
