Probably on this site it would be the caliber wars. However, in the overall community I think issues surrounding open carry and carry in generally seems to be rising to the top.

I agree -- the caliber wars. Not necessarily 9mm v. .45 acp, though. Seems like there's a few folks out there shooting that new fangled .40 S&W caliber. There's also some that like other calibers, too.

My three perennial favorites, in no particular order are:
guns for bears guns for snakes guns in space As far as the newfangled .40 S&W is concerned -shrug- it's the caliber of choice for a lot of law enforcement. Personally if your not law enforcement I have no problem with people using it in private…just be sure to wash your hands afterward and don’t mention it in polite conversation. |

Glock vs. Anything Else (and/or would you ever buy a Glock period)
Revolver vs. Pistol .45 Colt vs. .44 Magnum Revolver Rounds in a Pistol Pistol rounds is a Revolver Minimum caliber for a carry handgun Using reloads as a defensive round (legal ramifications) And the list could go on. |

1) Am I legally clear to shoot if ______?
2) Reloads for self-defense: asset or liability? 3) The virtues and/or pitfalls of open carry.

So many things boil down to hair splitting and preference."Which is better"might be about "What will the weather be?"
Ethics of long range hunting is good for debate. Or "Which 17 HMR load is best for my 4 year old to shoot a moose with a handgun"(Don't talk to me about whether it is a good idea, just tell me which load) I have this(milsurp) I want to turn into a deer rifle |

(1) The benefits of the 5.7x28 round, (2) whether it's good for SD, and (3) whether any of the guns currently made to fire it are worth purchasing.
Although these topics seem separate and distinct to me, they are invariably conflated whenever any one of them is discussed. Additionally, the Ft. Hood mass shooting, Maj. Nidal Hasan, the 5.7x28's rumored popularity with Mexican drug cartels, specious comparisons to the .22WMR cartridge, and/or the ethics and legalities of civilian ownership of AP ammunition are usually brought up, even if they have no direct relation to what the initial poster asked.

1. Open Carry vs. The World, aka "Why did the police stop me for walking down Main Street with my loaded, combat-slung AK-47? They didn't have probably cause or existing circus pants, and he wasn't even wearing his hat!"
2. Caliber Wars, aka "Is .380 ACP good enough if I'm mugged by a polar bear wearing MS-13 tattoos and body armor?" 3. A 10-oz. .357 magnum snubnose is a great first gun for my wife, right? 4. When can I shoot someone? Honorable Mention: What is the best gun for concealed carry while surfing/in the hot tub/in a public swimming pool/in the shower/while whitewater rafting? |

Shotgun vs AR for home defense.
IDPA vs USPSA for tactical training - and is either really tactical training? Do I need training?

"What AR should I buy?" gets thrown out there a lot. I hear more AR's around here than in a pirate movie
