Gotta think of the CZ 75.
I just got the Comact model. I think the finish is called "brushed nickel," however. JB

#1 Not sure about the cheapest stainless model because a lot of them are just finished that way.
#2 I'd have to say the Kahr K9 (with price factored in). I like the DAO trigger (one of the few that I actually enjoy), and it fits my hand extremely well. |

There are so few anymore...aluminum frames, plastic frames....
I gotta go with the CZ 75 also. Frankly - I would go with a used S&W 5906 - there are a lot of them out there that are so lightly used - I got one - ex Law enforcement. It is literally new looking. All for less than $300.00.... |

Ruger P95 has to be the lowest cost new all-steel 9mm from a major manufacturer. Well, on second thought, I guess that doesn't count since the grip is polymer.
I guess it's the CZ75 or maybe the Magnum Research Baby Eagle if you want new. I would rather have a used Smith 5906. |

I'm not sure you can get what you want for NMT $300. I know that unless it has had a very hard life, and shows it, you'd be real hard pressed to get anything good for that price.

Sigma
S&W Sigma is probably the cheapest but I would get a Ruger for about the same price as the Sigma trigger is horrible. I've owned 2 Sigmas and even sent one back to have a trigger job done. Yuck.:barf:

I would (and did) go with the Beretta 92fs. Just range tested mine and I am thrilled with the firearm. Dead-on accurate, tight groups, and the action is as smooth as silk. The Beretta is everything I hoped it would be, plus it is one of the best looking firearms there is.
I did not go with the inox (stainless) version and if you are on a budget neither should you IMHO. Also VERY easy to field strip and clean. I can see why the US Army went with the Beretta for its standard officer's sidearm.

CZ-82 in 9MM Makarov. Maybe a used 75B, but they are not inexpensive anymore.
You may still be able to get a surplus Sig P6 as well.

Taurus PT-92 is probably the cheapest and best value in a new, metal-framed, stainless 9mm semi-auto. I would never recommend any other current Taurus model, but the Taurus 92 series pistols are very good guns. Bud's has them new for $446 shipped at the moment.

Holy moly, it can't be that tough to stick to the few things the guy is looking for.
1) All metal frame --- steel & aluminum OK, polymer guns like Sigma and P95 not OK 2) 9mm --- probably safe to assume he's looking for 9x19 and not .380 or 9mm Mak until he says otherwise 3) new --- guns like the 5906, Sig P6 and CZ 82 are not new 4) stainless --- Sig P6 and Maks are not stainless, brushed nickel is not stainless |

Thank you Alexander.
I think the Inox Beretta or the stainless CZ75 are probably going to be the best value in a stainless 9mm. The Beretta has an alloy frame but the CZ is full stainless I believe. They're both pretty good lookers if you ask me too. http://www.berettausa.com/products/9...s/default.aspx http://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/79-pis...STAINLESS.aspx

It just occurred to me that SIG's have alloy frames, and blackened stainless slides. That would put them very close to the requiements, and in the same price line as the Beretta and stainless CZ.

TennJed,
if i was that "budgeted", i'd carefully check out all the "used pistol shelves" for PD trade-ins. SOME of the trade-ins around here are NEW or "near new", as they have been in a PD armory ever since they were purchased. - otoh, some of the "trade-ins" are JUNK, too. at least one local "corrections facility" recently released ALL of their revolvers/semi-autos/shotguns, in a trade for new weapons, to a nearby dealer. (one of my friends bought a 3" Model 65 S&W that looks BRAND NEW! - they had some S&W semiauto pistols in that condition, too.) i'm considering purchasing a 2.5" Model 66, from the same "haul", that was fired exactly TWICE by the "whiteshirt", who carried it over a 15+ year period. ("topline managers" evidently "qualify" routinely with the "Model M-1 pencil"!) yours, sw |

What about BHP? I had one in the 90s, and it was pretty cheap when I bought it back then. I know the actual Brownings are pretty expensive, but there are countless knock-offs and there have to be cheap versions of this pistol out there.

I was going to say:
sig p226 - i think you can get stainless - but not sure. But are $$ so prob. out. cz-spo1 - bersa thunder - clarify if is actual stainless or some other type. beretta 92fs- inox. I am going to get a sig and probably a cz (or ar-24), but that picture above of the beretta inox is NICE! I have got to get one of those - so that is my vote. |

Stoeger Cougar is another one to add to the list. Cheaper then the CZ-75 at my LGS by about $70 or so, has a pretty dang good reputation. I just put a .45ACP version on layaway, was $450 out the door, NIB.

Recommend whatever you wish. If you have it and you like it, great. I would never recommend that gun. That's a difference of opinion. Deal with it -- in an adult and "cerebral" manner, if you're so capable. Given your posting history thus far, I have my doubts. Last edited by AustinTX; April 29, 2011 at 03:40 PM. |
