SWC question, I'm stumped!

Hey guys,
I'm loading .45ACP with 200grn SWC. I switched from swaged lead to copper coated, same OAL, 1.221". Now, the lead fed perfectly, but the copper coated catches the feed ramp, and knocks the bullet back into the case. (out of a Kimber 5") I'm keeping the copper coated bullets, the lead was just too nasty, so I need to make this work! Help, Help!

Neck tension. Taper crimp adjustment. Polish feedramp.

Feed ramp polished, having a hard time adjusting crimp. Using a Dillon SDB. Does the OAL have something to do with this?

Dave,
I use Rainer Copper Coated 200 gr SWC with an OAL 1.240 CRIMP is .470

It fires perfectly through all but one of my 1911's. My Colt Gold Cup doesn't feed SWC at all

Check your crimp.

Alrighty, let's see, I'm using West Coast Bullets, 200 grn, but if I seat the bullet shallower, it doesn't look like it has enough bearing surface.........
Ok, bullet length is .621-.625" how does this compare?

Dave AA:

Consider the following. Go back to the lead, cast bullet, hard cast, H & G 68 (or similar).

Try an oal of 1.260. Diameter of loaded round, at end of cartroidge case, after TAPER CRIMPING, thould run aproximately .470" diameter.

I shoot this type of load in 2 45 auto's, one a Colt 70 series government model, the other a Kimber Classic Custom Target. It feeds fine in both.

I also wonder as to what it is in particular that troubeles you about lead bullets, though ones personal preference is of course ones personal preference. The SWAGED LEAD BULLET might be so soft that it is causing a problem, or problems.

Pay alittle more and get hard cast
bullets,swaged bullets lead barrel bad if velocity is to high. play with your OAL. I load my to 1.250" And all works fine.

Hi Dave, I shoot colt 45. H&G 68 bullets that I cast. OAL.is 1.24 (5.8 gr W231) How new is your gun? Sometimes auto need brake in time 100to200 hard-ball? I would seat your bullets out more, and a little crimp. Jeff

Check the dia. of your expander button I believe the expander for cast bullets is a bit larger than one for jacketed bullets and the West Coast bullets are sized .451 same as most jacketed bullets
