Recalled Caracal F Replacement Review

As most of you know, in 2012 Caracal announced that most (if not all) of the Caracal C & F pistols in the US were subject to a recall due to the possibility that a round may discharge if the pistol was dropped.

So, I requested a replacement about 7 months ago and got a call about a month ago that my replacement F was in and Caracal sent me a FedEx pre-paid shipping label to send my gun in for replacement. Less than a week later I had my new F in my hands.

Pros:
-Free magazine, shirt, hat, & pen.
-Free installation of a front fiber optic front sight (had to pay for the part though)
-Included a 15% discount coupon off my next Caracal purchase
-Still has a great trigger (more on this in the video below)
-Quick turnaround once I sent it in.

Cons:
-Took a while for the replacement gun to get into the country; still waiting on my replacement C model

Here's the video with some shooting with the new gun, a discussion of the differences between the old and new one, and my overall thoughts of the process:

Recalled Caracal F Replacement Review

Nice report. I appreciate it.

I'll be sending my C back and I'll use the coupon on an F when they are available again.

I worry about the long term effects of the recall on Caracal. It really couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Yeah, if they could have been selling when everyone was out of semiauto hi-caps, they could have reached a whole lot of new shooters.

I certainly know what you're saying there but they are still selling a ton around the world and have tons of military/police contracts so I'm sure they're still taking a good bit of money in. Also, they have some serious money backing them...

Oh I know they have international sales and contracts to bolster them. I'm not saying the company as a whole is going to flop. My comments are more about Caracal USA.

I wouldn't buy from them. Thats a safety issue. Too many extremely good competitors out there.

I looked at the F and C just before the recall was announced, and I'm particularly interested in a QS version, so I hope that the new guns start getting to dealers soon. I have a Steyr M9A1, and the Caracals share several features with it that are selling points for me.

I know this is an old thread, but is anyone else waiting for Caracal F replacement. I have phoned them 3-4 times over last year and they say they are still waiting for guns to come in and then they will send the fedex package and free stuff like the op said.

I am tired of waiting though. Any others?

I like the gun, just want them to send me the fedex return package.

I opted for a refund. Figured it would be easier & faster for them to come up with $$$ than new pistols. If/when they make it back on the market, I may use the refund to buy a new one.

Not on them at this point; it's on customs/ATF. They submitted the replacement gun designs/samples to ATF and they just got the thumbs up to import them in 2015. So, who knows how long it'll be......?
