Need a scope for my 10/22
Outside of red dot optics, I have close to zero experience with scopes, (I’ve always gone iron) however I want to try getting a scope for my Ruger 10-/22, of some groundhog shooting I have coming up this week.
Any feedback on some good affordable scopes would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by Ruthless4christ; January 20, 2013 at 04:17 PM. |

I'm in the same boat. Bought a few guns that I now need optics for. This is one of them.

IMHO all you need is a fixed 4 power. I bought a Bushnell for 25 bucks at Wally World and while I haven't had it long it seems to be a good scope for the money.

It's hard to beat a Mueller APV for a 10/22. It's a lot of scope for not a lot of money.

Fishbed, I only spent 140 on the ruger, I dont want to spend that much on a scope although it does get raving reviews.

For a .22 you dont need super pricey optics, all of mine have sub $100NZ scopes. (Probably the same things are $50 US or less). I have a kilwell (budget brand ed scope marketed by a NZ fishing/ hunting supplier)on one, and tasco scopes on my other .22s.
They work fine, hold zero, etc. I run 1 x 4x32 and the other two have 3-9 x40 scopes Just get some decent rings |

I was going to recommend the Nikon Rimfire scope with BDC reticle and use of the Spot On ballistics app. I'm a fan of it, but if you are looking for sub $100, it's not the right scope.

Look around to see if you can find a Simmons 8 point...I have one in 3-9x40 and it works great on my marlin model 60. Easy adjustments and clear sight picture. Has adjustable eye relief and everything. I found mine at the local gunshop for 65$ but they had a 20% off sale. ended up costing me around $50.

Give the BSA Sweet .22 a shot. I've got 3 of them and they work great for a .22lr and you can find them very reasonable through Natchez.

My recommendation is to either choose a scope with adjustable objective, or a scope specifically designed for .22 rimfire. (Those are generally adjusted to be parallax free at 50 yards instead of the 100 or 150 parallax setting common to scopes designed for centerfire rifles). I really like my Nikon Prostaff 3-9x rimfire scope, but it is a little over your budget. I have a Simmons 3-9x32 rimfire scope with adjustable objective, but its optics are no match for the Nikon. Still for $60 or so, the Simmons does work. I actually prefer the Simmons 4x fixed rimfire scope for about $40 for a cheap scope. The fixed power tends to be more clear optically, and really for shots out to 60 or 70 yards, it has enough magnification. You might also take a look at the Center Point scopes offered at Walmart. I have read some pretty positive comments about those, and they are definitely within your budget.

Hawg stole my thunder. Get a fixed 4x, specifically recommend a Simmons .22 mag series if you're on a budget.
For almost all things that a factory 10/22 is good for skip all scopes with adjustable objective or high magnification. Not needed and definitely NOT wanted. |

You can get the Nikon ProStaff 4x power, set up for typical rimfire shooting in terms of distance (50 yards), for not much over $100.00. Or you might consider doing what I did and install a Williams receiver sight on your model 10-22.

I have a 4x32 Simmons on my Henry .22 lever gun that works fine and didn't cost much. I think it was $30 at Dunhams.

IF you down't want to spend much it really doesn't matter. Nikon, bushnell, tasco, weaver, redfield, for less than 100bucks it dosen't matter. I would spend more myself something like this.

A Mueller APV (~$120) is a pretty decent entry level light-duty scope and is a popular choice with target shooters just starting out in the sport. To the best of my knowledge the only downside for rimfire use is the thick crosshairs but that shouldn't hurt for hunting. My favorite scopes for 10/22s are Weaver V series and RV7 2.5-7x28 and RV9 rimfire scopes and the Leopold VX-1 2-7x28 rimfire scope. The top one has an RV9 3-9x32 Rimfire w/AO and the lower has a V24 6-24x42 w/AO. FWIW Natchez has Weaver V16s and V24s on clearance sale for pretty cheap.
