My new 1849 Uberti Pocket

Took some pics of my new 1849 Uberti Pocket model today and wanted to share.

I've always loved the look of open top revolvers, but the large framed models just felt a little too big for my hands. This one feels perfect!

Eventually, I'll add a Kirst Conversion cylinder (.32) and a loading gate channel.
Unfortunately, I'm told the kits are currently on back-order.

Very beautifull revovler, this version have a nice feeling from the Colt 's models.
Just grips are not so good featuring looks, but that's possible to custom them as well as possible.

Very nice. You can strip the Uberti orange off the grips and stain them.

Very nice looking piece. I think I have the 1860 Sheriff model in 44.

What is the difference in yours and a very similar model but called the Wells Fargo model, chich does not have a plunger to load the cylinder.

Just asking.

That's the only difference that I'm aware of.

Looks like it's just a matter of removing three screws to get the grip off.

I was actually thinking about having the name "Josey Wales" engraved on the back-strap.

Yes. Grips might be a little trouble to work off of back strap if they're tight.

A Goodish name. Wasn't Josie Wyatt Earp's second wife's name also?
I think I would just have Josie engraved, as that's actually her name.

Well, I stripped the grips, applied dark walnut danish oil, let it sit overnight, and then applied several coats of tru-oil (using 0000 steel wool between coats).
Then on the final coat, I let it dry just enough to get "tacky" and rubbed it into the finish with a soft cotton cloth.

Any better?

And you probably can't tell from that pic, but I did have the name "Josey Wales" engraved on the backstrap.

Sorry, no pics on that ... it's a real b!tch trying to photograph shiney objects and still be able to read the engraving.

OK, here's a story. I have the CVA "Wells Fargo" model. Same model, no charging lever. It was in the "junk case" at the local shop, "as is" for $20.

It was jammed up, but felt like most of the parts where in place. Decent shape, no rust, no buggered screws -- "French Grey" (I just learned this term.)

I figured for $20 it would look nice on the coffee table, and if nothing else give me something to work over. First thing I do is re-finish the grips in Tung Oil.

Anyway, I get it home, take it out to the bench and take it apart. It's all there. the leaf spring for the trigger and cylinder pawl is installed upside down. Flip the spring over and the gun is fixed. $20.

I hate it when stuff like this happens to me!

That's too much, TOO MUCH!

Now that you've worked it over, you could sell it here or trade it for a quick and easy profit ... or ... keep that little puppy for a LONG time.

I attached a photo, above -- (Newbie, learning this site, and file on the other computer).

I dressed up the muzzle, crown a bit, polished the brass, refinished the grips, straightened out the curve in the trigger. I've never shot it. It's a coffee table item, along with the replica Philadelphia Derringer (cheap Spain) I picked up for about $40.

Seems like there's a fair amount of abandoned BP stuff out there that people have failed to clean. Some work in the shop and most of it comes back.

I picked up a 54 cal. Plains Rifle kit cheap from a shop. It'd been sitting forever because the locals want rifling for conicals and elk. I just wanted a kit to build.
