43 Spanish load data

After an absence of over 30 years I'm about to begin reloading again. Have a circa 1871 Remington Rolling Block in 43Spanish, which is very similiar to 11mm/43 Mauser or 43 Egyptian. Its in very good condition. Don't want to use black powder. Have a can of IMR3031 powder and 370 grain cast bullets. Anyone have a suggestion for grains of powder to safely use.

a friend of mine used a smokeless pmc 45-70 in it, but don't know what kind of powder they use. i know he gets alot of info from Culvers...
you should go to the reloading section of the culvers shooting pages
[ Http://www.jouster.com/ ] and I'll bet someone there knows. i remember him saying you make case from the .348 case for the .43 spanish. Sorry couldn't be of more help .

FRom 'Cartridges of the World' 1973 - 11.15x58R [.43] - 387 gr Lyman #439186 bullet, 32 grains 4198 for 1360 fps, 40 grains 3031 for 1310 fps.

Thank you MrGee and Mete for info. Have enough of 43 Mauser brass, I've fireformed to 43 Spanish to reload. When I was a teenager in the 60s, discovered that 43 Mauser ammo for 1871 Mauser rifle could be shot in 43 Spanish rolling block. Not too smart to do, but a friend had the same rolling block rifle and we both shot 43 Mauser ammo in our RB's to get brass to reload. Never threw the brass away.

You guys are bringing back the memories now. I had a .43 Spanish Rolling Block when I was about 18; got a beer-sack full of original BP loads with it, in the trade. We used to take it down to the rock quarry in winter, and shoot those big icicles off the bluffs with it, from about 200 yards. It'd bring 'em down, too.

Cool old rifles, for sure.

Invssgt, yea I had fun as a teenager shooting at a sandy creek bed a little further than your icicles. Neat to shoot, put down the rifle, pick up binoculars and wait for bullet to hit.
