The choke tube that came on my new 870 is labeled "Remmington Mod". Where does this fall in the line of choke tubes from "cylinder" to "full choke"?
I have already done a search on this forum and the folks at
Wally World don't really seem to know. Also, is this choke suitable for shooting slugs? If not, which tube should I go to?
Many thanks.

The modified falls in the middle. Cylinder and improved cylinder are more open chokes while improved modified and full are tighter.

You can shoot slugs through a modified choke. Whether they will shoot accurately can only be determined by trying various brands of slugs through your gun. Generally, improved cylinder is the preferred choice for slugs but each gun and slug combination is different.

PJR speaketh Gospel(G). I'll add that Modified is the most all around choke, but only a little testing with your gun, tube and load will show the best setup for you.

Congrats on your purchase, your great grandchildren who will use it will thank you...
