Louisiana - Open Carry Legal?

I will be traveling to Louisiana rather soon, and I was wondering if open carry of a loaded handgun is legal for non-residents? I will be out in the sticks for the most part, however there are some areas that will have a "large" (for there) population.

This might be a good starting point...should be something there about whether open carry is legal there. I only checked my state, we have open carry...but you still have to have a ccw permit to do so.

This has a map of open carry states.

I grew up there - years ago, it was allowed, but no one did it. If U did, be prepared to be stopped by a cop every 2 min.

I read the statues (that I could find), ONLY mentions CONCEALED carry is illegal without a permit, nothing about open carry. I do not think I will have any trouble with the PD as I will be out in plantation country for the most part.

There is no law against it and if you are out in the country i doubt anyone will bother you, but a trip to the mall with pistol on hip will get you hassled.

Also do you have a concealed carry permit. LA will accept just about any state's permit that accepts ours.

Here is a link look under reciprocity

I used to open carry back home In Shreveport all the time. I carried when I drove the wrecker and on my motorcycle. I was NEVER hassled. I broke up an attack on a 7-11 store clerk and held the drunk for the cops (never un-holstering the gun). He came across the counter after the clerk and I grabbed him by the collar, snatched him back and then introduced his head to the counter with him in a Full Nelson. After that the fight was out of him. The cops took him and never even asked my name. I was open carrying a S&W Model 50... you couldn't miss it on my right hip!
