Scope question

Hey guys i have a ruger m77 hawkeye 270 cal with a bushnell banner 4-18x50scope on it. I am needing to clean my gun and i just got done checking my scope at the range to make sure its still on before this years deer season. my question for this is being its on my ruger it has the special rings to mount the scope. If i just losen the rings from the base and not losen the actual clamp on the scope will my scope still stay the same as what it was when i sighted it in. Im just trying to avoid another trip to the ranger to re do all of this. thanks for the help

Even though many rings, including the Ruger rings, have excellent "return to zero" capability, there will often be some movement from zero when removed and reinstalled. If you need to remove the scope from the rifle, it will be very close to the same point of impact. But since removing a scope is not part of cleaning, may I ask why you feel it necessary to remove the scope?

Mine have always returned to zero. In fact I have had several different scopes pre-zeroed that I can quickly mount on the same rifle. Might not be close enough to win in a long range shooting competition, but for hunting at 200-300 yards I cannot tell any difference after removing and re-mounting.

I've often done the same with Weaver style rings and bases.

You don't need to remove the scope to clean the rifle. Leave it alone.

I been cleaning rifles for a lot of years and have never found the need to remove the scope. If the rifle is sighted in well and you are happy with the results, leave it alone.

LET ME REPEAT WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID THERE IS NO NEED TO TAKE YOUR SCOPE OFF TO CLEAN THE RIFLE, but if you are going to take it off and on the way to do it is by using a picatinny rail and rings made to be removed from bases but keep the scope tightened to the rings.

reasoning for removing scope is to clean the surface rust that has started to show on the top of the barrel by the rings.

Spray some cleaner in there and wiggle the gun cleaning rag under the scope and pull back and forth on the rag.
