Build your own

I have been in for several years and am concidering just building mine own AR. How difficult is it to put a kit together. How much do they cost, what is best brand of kit to buy. what tools do i need. Or should I just stick to buying them complete.

Honestly it's a snap if you're going to buy a barreled upper. There are many companies that deal with just barreled uppers. M-A parts is one that I can think of off the top of my head. Everything else, however, is a snap and can be done by ANYONE. The only special tool that I can think of is the buffer tube removal tool. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (on the tool).

Get ya these tools before you start and, with a little mechanical ability, it'll be no problem.

Do it I did. I have a superior lower and and M&A upper and it shoots like a dream. Go to M&A's site and check it out they are awesome. aimsurplus is also a great site. A superior lower is only 89.95 parts kits are cheap too.

You need a roll pin punch set. The head is rounded so you don't deform the roll pin. It doesn't have to be a "weapons" set, but it does need to be a roll pin punch.
