Traveling 9
This is a tread I haven't seen before here so I figured I would post it. Recently I have been doing some traveling. Way more than usual. Due to this I have taken the steps to get CCW permits from outside my own state. I have also been doing a decent amount of flying.
I am considering the purchase of a cheap single stack 9mm to take on these trips. Airlines will allow you to claim a firearm obviously and check it with your luggage. I just want someting that I will not be devistated if they loose or destory it during shipping and travel. So far my best suggestion to myself is a Kel Tec PF9. I can't find a decently concealable 9mm for much less than $250 so does anyone have a reason why I can't trust my life to one of these. (for a short trip) Regards, Vermonter |

I trust my life to a kel-tec FP-9
I do not see any problem with them.
they work fine...they are not pretty or have much glamour. but they do the job well. good luck.

I second the recommendation for the Kahr CW9. If you want something slightly smaller, the CM9 is also an excellent choice.

cost
I was trying to keep it cheap as the airlines may loose the darn thing. $500 is Glock $ in my firearms budget. I think If I were going to spend that much I would head in the direction of the M&P sheild.
I have one handgun that is cheap enough not to worry about however it was a gift so I would hate to see it lost. Thanks, Vermonter |

I fly with the same handgun I carry at home, my P2000sk. It is probably one of the more expensive carry guns out there. Each time, I think about taking my PPS instead, for the same reasons mentioned here. But ultimately, I rationalize by saying the reason I am taking this is to potentially protect my life, and if its the right gun at home, its the right gun here. It is what I practice and train with, so it's what I want to have if I need it.
FWIW, I am Platinum with Delta and haven't had ANYTHING lost or stolen yet.

Kahr CW9 or CM9. Either one would be perfect for that role.
Kahr CW9 $369 shipped at Bud's right now: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...Frame+%26+Stai Kahr CM9 $399 shipped: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ly+Grip+and+Fr

What about a Kel-Tec P11? Or,I like my SCCY CPX-2. They go for around $235 or so. Comes with (2) ten round mags. Give it a look see.

I would suggest a Hi-point, cheap and ugly, but effective and accurate.

I would highly recommend a Kel-Tec P-11, relatively inexpensive and reliable. Perfect for the application you speak of.

Get the PF9. It's my edc and I like it better than the other options out there (small size, slim, lightweight, & conceals well.) If it's not in my pocket then it's in my car. I wouldn't want to leave any of my more expensive guns in the car, and it would hurt less if the Kel-Tec was stolen.
