Can anyone identify what the heck this is...a friend of mine (accidently?) discharged and apparently there weren't any new holes in the wall.

It's a starter gun of some sort. The cases in the first picture appear to only be blanks.

I think it was a 'flare gun'...
The blanks were used to propel a small cylinder that fit in the 'flared' part of the barrel... Seem to remember these from the backs of magazines as a kid in the 60's... http://2mmpinfireworld.weebly.com/guns.html |
