I didn't see what I believe to be any "nitro" proofs, so I wouldn't shoot modern ammo out of it until checked by a smith who knows older guns. Do the barrels at the breech have a gap when locked up? (It looks that way).
The V with the crown is a London proof mark, but again, I do not believe that is for smokeless powder. If the patent date is correct, it would have been for black powder cartridges. Hard for me to tell from the photos - are those fluid steel or Damascus? |

It appears to be a Purdy with locks made under license from Stanton. Stanton had a patent for rebounding hammers in the locks. Stanton GL stands for Stanton Gun Locks.
