No. 209 Primers

Does anyone know if the CCI 209 primers that "fit 209 primer pistols" will work in a muzzleloader that takes 209 shotgun primers? They're the only 209 primers I can find in stock. Actually I found some from Thompson Center too, but they got some bad reviews. Suggestions?

Everything I have read online lead me to believe that a 209 is a 209. I can't remember where but someone showed some chrono's of different 209's including muzzle loaders, and the difference was not huge.

Post this question over on the black power/cowboy action forum, you'll get a good answer. In fact, just do a search on that forum, you'll find out that not all 209's are created equal. Especially where muzzle loaders are concerned.

The CCI 209 is a mild primer; the 209M is hotter. All shotshell primers in production today are the same diameter. Years ago the 157 and 57 sized primers were smaller. Every primer has a different brisance factor; Federal 209As are the hottest that I know of.

Crowbeaner is correct. For the muzzy I use the 209 mag.

I really think the 209 for bp guns are hotter than reg. 209 for shot shells. Just my 2 cents.

Found the link I had mentioned above. Maybe give some sort of clarity...It does show if I am reading it correctly the ML 209 are actually lighter primers.

Well, looks like I was wrong. ML 209 are weaker.
