I am not familiar with that powder. If it is a Winchester number, you might contact them and ask them, or double check reloading manuals.
It almost looks like Vihtavouri(sic) number. Vihtavouri's reloading guide. They seem to like N110, N120 powders. |

The Winchester powder W-540 is a hair slower than HS-6. You could use the bottom loads of the HS-6 data and work your way up. I'd gauge the max loads when the head of the case starts growing about .002 and if you start having necks split, back up. It's obviously not the best powder for what you have but when it's all you have.....According to the data I have, that would make it 4.0 grs W-540 using a 45 gr bullet for starters. I've found pistol primers to add considerably to the accuracy in this cartridge if you have them. Pressures will not be any higher than that of any pistol case. Best of luck.

W540 is a fairly fast powder. It is also a fairly bulky powder, but you could load 22 Hornet with it.

ww540/HS 6
I have loaded this powder under 45-50 gr cast gas checked bullets using a small pistol primer, neck sized only and a Lee factory crimp for uniform neck tension. Used 3.2 grains of WW 540. Velocity was at 1450 fps and accuracy was less than 1" @ 50 yds. out of a Savage 24F.

I would look for Accurate 1680, H-110, Alliant 300mp, Hodgonn's Lil-Gun, 4227 either, Ramshot Enforcer, 2400 would be better than W-540.
