Ankle holster for 640-1; need suggestions

I recently found an untouched s&w 640-1 with forged internals which I promptly bought as a back up gun. I am now wondering if one can safely carry a hammerless j-frame in an ankle holster (worried about it falling out). If one can safely carry a 640-1 in an ankle holster would some one recommend a good one?

I have a M638 and I use a Galco ankle glove holster with it. It does not have a retention strap but is made to hold the gun very tight. I've never been worried about it coming out on it's own but I have never tried to run around the block with it on either. I've worn it all day and it is secure and comfortable.

It's called the Ankle Glove. If you go to Galco's website they have them listed for the M640 with or without a thumb break.

In my opinion, there is only one ankle holster:

Lou Alessi Ankle Rig. http://www.alessigunholsters.com/ankle.html

You can buy cheaper, but not better.

I carried a Glock 19 in one for years and never felt the weight. A J frame would be unnoticeable.

I agree with Sgt127. I carry a J frame in a Renegade ankle holster 3 days a week, about 14 hours each day. It is comfortable, secure, and the retention strap is actually designed fo work with ankle carry.

Ive tried a number of ankle holsters over the years, and have come to really like the Desantis Leather Ankle Holster 044. Its been the only one I can "comfortably" wear, for a full, 18 hour day, day after day. Fits snug, no movement, and easy to access/operate.

I have one each for my J frames and Glock 26's.

I've been using one of these for a coupla years with my 637. Gun has always been secure and most times I forget I wearing it. I did have to get the extensions for when wearing boots tho.

My advice would be to forget the ankle holster.

I ended up getting a galco and am waiting on a renagade.

As for forgetting the ankle holster, no way. So far having a bug on my ankle has been a great idea. Only problem I have now is it makes me want an airweight. Now to convince the wife I "need" another gun

de santis 044 81 great holster. However, I find daily wear of my 640 or 642 on the ankle start to hurt my knee and hip. I had a chiropractor say to rotate sides because it throws off you body balance.
