Pre model 10 dating
Can someone help me place a date on a pre model 10 Smith & Wesson revolver. It's baiscally identical to a model 10, old style 5-screw frame, 4" tapered barrel, six shot 38 special:
serial number on butt: C 3050XX What would the proper name for it be, Military & Police or something else? Thanks. |

It would be a Military & Police. I don't know of a site that dates Smiths. Maybe someone else does. You can contact Roy Jenks at S&W and have it lettered. Not sure how much it costs now but the last time I checked it was 25.00.

apr1775, from the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson your serial number would place it somewhere around 1954-1956. I guess the official model designation would be .38 Military & Police (Postwar), a.k.a. Pre-Model 10. For a more specific date you will need to contact Roy Jenks as Hawg Haggen suggested. Hope this helps!
