Would that do away with sizing wax?
I'm new to reloading having done less than a thousand rounds. I'm only doing .308 ammo (for accuracy) and I'm using the Redding Competion dies. I use Imperial sizing wax and it works really well. I also happen to have a rifle that has NP3 coating. That got me thinking (a dangerous thing, I know): If they can coat a whole rifle white not a sizing die.
Has anyone here tried to coat sizing dies with an electroless nickel-based finish for steel that co-deposits sub-micron particles of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), otherwise known as Teflon, with electroless nickel? Would that do away with sizing wax?

NO! Most of the problem with rifle cases sticking in dies is caused by them being tapered. Any time you force a tapered metal object into a tapered hole, it tends to seize up. That's what keeps the flywheel on your lawn mower engine tight. (The nut just holds it there).
The lube prevents that lock-up from happening.

Snuffy is correct. Dillon sells solid carbide rifle dies for .223 and .308; the cases have to be lubed or they'll stick.

The only thing I believe would possibly size a bottle neck without lube would be titanium. Titanium is naturally slick. Since no one makes the dies out of it, I guess I wont find out any time soon.

au contraire
Still it's not slick enough for rifle cases. http://www.redding-reloading.com/ind...tanium-carbide

Maybe they will start making them in rifle dies soon.

That's all interesting guys, but I guess no one has tried an electroless nickel-based finish yet? Or if they did it didn't work?
Maybe we need to ask Redding or one of the other die manufacturers? Let's all do it.
