Your favorite 25-06 powder?

I have on hand some IMR 3031, only because when I started to try out reloading rifle I found a loading for all four of the cartridges I was intending to reload for this one power. Two of the cartridges are lever guns, open sight, so I don't think I'll be putting hole in hole at the range anyway.

I would like to work up a hunting load that will be as accurate as I can get. I will be starting with 100gr nosler ballistic tips. This will be used mostly for range play, the occasional coyote, and occasional white tail. My range is 300yd max. Coyote 450yd max.

25-06

My 25-06 likes H4831 with 87 grain bullets. For 100 grain bullets I would guess it would be IMR4350. But then guessing is not a option here. Point your browser here http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp if you don't have a reloading manual.
Hope this helps
Have a nice day!

RL22, IMR7828, and H4831 get the nod here.

My Remington Sendero likes IMR 4831. Shoots 87 Hornady Spire Points and 100 grain SP's very well . Remington cases and RP 9 1/2 primers. My 25-06 doesn't seem to be bullet weight sensitive and shoots 120gr Remington factory loads great. That's the only factory load I've tried and then only one box when it was new. I use IMR 4831 for 87-117 grain bullets and it works well for all.

IMR 4350 is good, but nothing has topped H-4831SC in my experience.

Peter Eick - My 25-06 is a Ruger #1V. I've tried just about every powder that can be used for this cartridge and the two I've settled on are H-4831 and Retumbo. H-4831 for bullets 87 grains and lighter and Retumbo for everything else. There are a few bullets my gun doesn't like (the Sierra 117 grain Boat Tail comes to mind) but Retumbo has given me the best accuracy with the heavier bullets. A super accurate bullet for me has been the Nosler 100 grain Ballistic Tip but I don't take it deer hunting. My deer bullet is the Sierra 117 grain Pro Hunter with the flat base. There is a good 120 grain holloow point, Speer I think, that performs really well in my gun too ... again, with Retumbo powder. If you haven't done it yet, try a magnum primer with Retumbo and/or put a modest crimp on your ammo. This target was from 150 yards using a Retumbo load, that's the Nosler 100 grain Ballistic Tip bullet.

25-06 bullet depth

Flash,
What is your seating depth? I am using the same bullet with H4831sc. I am going by the OAL of 3.25. What do you suggest I seat them at to get a group that tight? I've been able to get 4 shots in a inch with one flyer at 100 yds, but thats the best so far. I would like to bring them in to under an inch.

I can measure the OAL but I don't think that will mean much. What works in my gun may not work in yours. I played with seating depth until I ended up about .005" off the lands.

IMR4064 with a 90gr. FBHP and CCI Benchrest primers, That combo would shoot a 5 -shot group at 100yds out of my Ruger Mark II VT that was roughly 5/16" all day long

Flash,
Good point, I understand every barrel has it own personality, so to speak. I haven't measured my chamber yet, but I plan on doing that this weekend and working up another batch. I will keep adjusting the depth till I get a group like the one you have posted. Thank you sir
