Coyote Killing Contest Prompts Howls
Wasn't sure if I should have posted this in L&P or Hunting. I'll let the moderators decide.

""You kill some coyotes and six months later it's as if you didn't kill any at all. What are they accomplishing other than just being barbaric?" asked Brooks Fahy, executive director of Predator Defense. "
That moron just answered his own question.

I think he's trying to justify that even though they are killing a certain quantity of Coyotes, the "yote" population will be right back up to the numbers it was at prior to the killing contest within a matter of months. Thus....What's the harm????
Would that be a correct assumption? Jeff

Given that some of our cats went MIA with coyotes the main suspects, I am hoping to blood my 6mm/.223 on a yodel dog this year. I was real fond of the last kitty we lost to the "cat eating monster" and my Baby Sako is the perfect gun for this purpose.

not for anything, but outdoor cats kill more song birds, ground birds, as well as a bunch of other animals, wether hungry or not, and should not be outside. The cat does not belong outside, the coyote does, the coyote won. sorry about your cat loss, but it shouldnt have been outside to begin with.

Cats are outdoor animals too. In fact, all animals are to a large extent. (even if they are housecats, they still need time outdoors). You can't coop any animal up indoors 24/7. Not healthy for them. We had a coyote come up Buffalo Bayou in Houston into our neighborhood a few years back killing cats. Don't know if they ever caught it. A cat was found dead a few weeks ago half eaten (to the broken heart of our neighbor). Could very well have been another Coyote. If I find one in my backyard prowling around, it's getting a .38 though it's side.
Cats do belong outside, Coyote belongs dead. |

Cats will, overall, live MUCH longer if they are in the house all the time. They do NOT need to be outdoors. When they are out, they can come into contact with all kinds of predators (including the neighbor dogs, never mind coyotes). A 100% indoor cat has a long healthy life. NO pet cat should be let out. Barn cats and farm cats (spayed and neutered) have a role that involves being outside and that is a different issue. But house cats are better off for being indoors. </hijack> The fuss about the contest, IMO, is that it is in fact a CONTEST. Had they just declared a 3-day hunt for coyotes, nobody would have gotten their knickers in a twist about it. Springmom
