Have any of you guys double charged (and fired)a load for a 1911? What happened when you fired it? I have fired up to 6.4gr. of W231 behind a 200gr. SWC and I could tell that it was pretty stout...I can't imagine a double charge of my regular load (5.4gr.) that would be 10.8 grains!

Friend has a six-inch Caspian single-stack; blew grips off, mag out (but luckily didn't ignite others), and blackened hands. Tape re-attached grips, but the swollen rails interfered with smooth, trouble-free operation. At a match.

Someone I know had an overcharge in his 10mm auto, blew the magazine out the bottom and all the crap out the top, he has never shot that gun again and I haven't seen him at the range either

I accidentally doubled a 5.7 grain WW231 / 230 gr FMJ load with one of my 1911's. It blew the top off the left grip, blew the plunger tube out and broke the hammer pin. It jammed the next round way down in the mag, the mag expanded.
Shall we blame the unsupported chamber for this???? It ripped a hole in the brass case right at the bottom base, the unsupported area. I replaced all the broken stuff, works great. I switched to power pistol in the hopes that the larger charge weights would make a double charge more obvious in the loading process. |

Got over 1800fps with a 300g from my 5.5" Redhawk.
Still have the gun......... (took a trip back to Ruger, though) LOL ------------------ "All my ammo is factory ammo" |

I threw a double loading 4 gr of Bullseye with a 200 gr SWC in a Colt Series 70 Mk IV. The gun held it but the extractor tore a piece from the rim of the brass.
