Peters Trap shells

Im not sure where to post this, but a friend of mine asked me if Peters 2 3/4" trap shells were any good? He said they are a little cheaper then what he buys now and would like to hear some input.

Peters is a name that goes back to the 19th century in ammo making.

All the ones I've shot over the last 50 years had at least been OK. Some great.

I think Peters is now being used on the generics. Best for your friend to try a box out and see how that shotgun "Likes" them....

I'm not sure if this still applies, but the difference between Remington and Peters ammo used to be just for marketing. One store would sell Remington and the one across the street would sell the same stuff with a Peters label. IINM, this used to also happen with Winchester and Western ammo ammo. In the back of my supply of reloads there are some old white Western AA boxes, but most are Winchester, I've don't shot R-Ps.

I reloaded a few of the Peters hulls ...30 yrs ago now probably....but they tended to crack pretty easily / wear out pretty fast...

In terms of new shells / quality ...they were always inexpensive.../ but I guess they were ok. But unless someone is making them again ...whatever you've found has to be really old inventory...at least 20 yrs old since I've seen any Peters shells around / but maybe it varies by region of the country..

Big Jim, you're old enough to remember the old "Blue Magic" R-P hulls.

Most of you guys --- obviously, never met a hull you could throw away ...

( I actually threw out about a dozen Rem STS and Rem Nitro hulls over the weekend....( said a little prayer for their service ..) ..and a few tears.../ once they crack on both sides, its just time to let them go .... (sniff), ( sniff),,,,,

yes, Zippy I remember those old blue Peters hulls...( isn't that what we were talking about / or are they around now in some other color) ?? Did I miss something again ....during my nap ....??

Du Pont purchased Remington during the Depression, and in 1934 they suctioned up Peters, which had been an independent company before that.

I picked up some blue hulls left on the trap field that don't look old to me. Low brass 2-3/4" marked Peters Target Load 3- 1 1/8 - 7 1/2 Remington. One of the range guys said they were just like the STS.

They are - there are some new loads in the Peter's blue hulls out now - not sure if it is a retro marketing deal or not
