SW 1076 Trigger Play spring install

Does anyone have any manuals, videos etc. That explains or shows how to properly take apart the trigger area of the frame to install a new trigger play spring?

No, I don't, but basically you have to almost totally strip the frame to remove the trigger and drawbar. The trigger play spring is riveted to the draw bar and is not easy to get off. In your case, of course you can break the old one off if it is already broken. Before you do, study the way the old one is in as that spring is easy to get in wrong.

Not one of the S&W designers' better ideas and, IMHO, an afterthought (Hey, Charlie, can you stop the trigger from flopping around?).

(FWIW, it might be better to ship the gun to S&W or find a gunsmith familiar with it.)

I have the AGI (American Gunsmithing Institute) DVD on SW autopistols that I bought from Midway a few years back. It does a good job of showing how to detail strip the frame and change out the trigger free-play spring and rivet. I have done several on my SW's and it is no big deal. The DVD is also a great sleep aid if you have insomnia- about twenty minutes should be enough to put you into a deep sleep. Good luck.

I believe S&W has a lifetime warranty? All ya gotta do is call, send in the pistol, and they'll return it to ya.

I have the part, SW sent it to me, FREE...Also, the SW rep I spoke with said the gun is good to go even without the trigger play spring. He commented on a Police Dept in CA that requested their SW 40's (4006 I believe he said) to come with out the trigger play spring. When you fire the pistol, you dont even know it. You only can tell when dry firing the SA..

That spring was an afterthough on the original Model 39, when they found out they couldn't keep the trigger from flopping around.* As mentioned, the gun functions fine without it, but just feels like something isn't right.

*The original spring was not riveted to the drawbar, it just clipped on.
