Gun

Hello.

We have in possesion a very old gun produced by J.P. Sauer & sohn Suhl
if anyone could help us to identify this weapone - when it was produced and if it is of any value. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your reply in advance.

Serial number 451765.
Special - Gewehr - (4 rings) Lauf - Stahl S.G.1

is it a rifle or a pistol?

any idea of caliber?

rifle, 12 caliber. 4 rings, crown and little chap printed on it. will post a picture soon

The rings (4 stamped double circles?) were to indicate the shotgun was proofed for modern ammo (likely 2 3/4" 12ga). There should be lots more markings and stamps that would further direct us to finding it's age, value, and whatever else.

These folks made fine shotguns, drillings (shotgun/rifle combos), and double rifles. I've seen pretty beaten and abused low end models go starting at $3500. I've also seen some quite nice ones with $11,000 price tags.
