If you use the right size media, 20/40 grit, you will not need to remove ANT media particals from the flash holes or primer pockets, FACT.
Why have shiney cases, not real sure, but then I also wash my car too, no real need to tho. Wipping my rifle down so it doesn't rust doesn't make it shoot any better either. Regarding time spent tumbling, I let it go while I sleep, never counted the time. Never noticed any increase in the electric bill either. Why use polish? It elimated the tarnish issue into a non issue.

Anyone else's dry tumbled brass look like this?
I use corn cob only now because I got sick of the dust.
Anyhow, the corn cob/Nu finish and a long tumble will get them SUPER shiny. Would polish out the darkened annealed spots as well |

Time to bring up the best smelling brass in Indiana again.
If you have dust problems. Take dryer sheets and cut them up into 2 inch squares and put 10 or so in with your cleaner while you’re cleaning and replace as necessary. They come out almost black. IT will also keep dust free medium cleaner. Now if smell isn’t important use used sheets.

"Corn cob verses bird cage litter. And corn cob wins again!!""
I suspect you have some sort of unwanted film covering them. Try wiping one with a lightly damped oily cotton cloth. CLP anything you have available. I use Braso mixed in with corn cob. Never do I see those like shells coming from my tumbler.__ "Yes yes I heard about the ammonia deal making the the brass brittle."__ But I throw my brass away long before that chemical reaction becomes a problem. I shoot my brass and clean them after every firing and still get 8-10 firings. Then into the junk box they go. Irregardless how they look. 270 -30-30 -32 Special not hard to find replacements for em. Not at all. Besides I don't want to shoot the same brass forever. I'm not out to get my name into the Guinness World Records nor am I that frugal or thightwad 'ish. I suspect OP like cat litter. Bird little too has some clay mix in to hide that chicken coop smell. And that film Sir is whats covering up your shells Bling!! color. S/S |

Not all corn cob media is the same. Some "litter" quality corn cob is too soft and flaky for good cleaning/polishing (hamster bedding). Normally reloaders use blast media ground corn cob for brass cleaning. It is smaller and harder granules and cuts/cleans dirt and corrosion much better...

boondocker nailed it, the media is dirty and needs changing.
When my brass looks like that, all I do is change the media and presto! All is right in the world, unicorns and rainbows. |

I personally could care less about shiney..... I want CLEAN so my dies last longer. Trust me, a photo of a one hole group will go farther than a pic of shiney brass......

What you have left is the polishing compound in the Brasso. Why not use an auto cleaner polish/wax as in Nu-Finish which will also retard/elimate tarnish? Then you would have a win-win.

Why I don't use both.__ I shoot what I reload within a couple days. I don't store my reloaded shells for extended length of time. Which your idea of a polish/wax would work extremely well under that circumstance.
The few brass I reload over & over do end up in a vibratory shell cleaner each time they are fired but for a short period of time only. 1/2 hour at most to bring on their BLING again!!__ Some gents rotate their brass. I don't. ("I use em and replace em.") Over the years I've found it to be easier doing it that way, No notes, record keeping, or special storage required. __"Just admirer the few I reload and how they SHINE and shoot'em up!!" My use of Brasso brought on so many Critique'rs as I call em and their don't-cha-knows its harmful to brass comments. But you jcwit are indeed the very first one that knew ammonia actually evaporates out of Brasso. I give credit to those who deserve it. jcwit you earned my Admiration this day. Being old school my advice to those who are always on the scout looking for substitute media for their vibratory tumble. Don't bother with bird littler gerbil littler or litter of any kind. Buy what the manufacture intended for use in their machine. You won't have disappointing results then. Those who choose not too use my advice. It's cool. Do what you want. > (You'll learn.)_ S/S |

You want pretty and shiny, use the Stainless Steel Media, Lemishine and Dawn. Can't tell them from new brass. You want good shooting brass, you're good to go with what you got and don't have to invest $300.00.
I have to use the STM due to the fact I'm using a lot of the brass I work with to swage into new bullets. 40S&W into 45 acp, 22lr into .224 etc. I have to use the stainless media, but just for reloading, you've got a good cleaning there. Bill

Your brass looks good, but I prefer shiny too.

In addition to preserving the brass and shine, the polish (Nu-Finish) will make the cases "SLIPPERY". Slippery is good in the mags, going into battery AND in the reloading press. since "drillspot" dried up, use this: http://www.zorotools.com/g/Blast%20Media/00054305/ |
