Reduced loads .223

Put the 7mm08 on the back burner for a short, now I'm looking for a good reduced load for a T/C Encore 26" barrel with lead 60 grainers to shoot at the rimfire silohuete (sp) corse. I started out with 6.5 grains of red dot but at 100 m. it was doing good just to hit my target (3'X4' cardboard). Loaded up some others that are further down the burn chart (lots further) and I was wondering if anyone had a pet load on this?

Speer's #11 book shows reduced loads for the 222 rem mag using IMR's SR 4759. For the 55 gr: 9 to 11 grains puts it in the 1700 - 2000 fps range.

This book does not list a reduced load for the .223, but being close in capacity, this should give you a starting point.

I have had good accuracy with SR 4759 in .270 reduced loads.

As always, cross check any information you see here.

Reduced 223 loads

Get a copy of LEE's "Shooter" program. It will let you take your standard powder load and reduce it to the velocity you want to shoot.
My 55 grain jacketed load is:
5.6 grains of UNIQUE [Estimated velocity is 1850.]

I have a couple of good loads that work well. I'm using this for a pistol with a 12" barrel. As always with loading data, work carefully, your mileage may vary.

I get good accuracy with 9.0 grains of H296 and a 40 grain bullet

Also 11.5 grains of blue dot with the 40 grain bullet.

I started by looking at http://www.jamescalhoon.com/bee.php
and http://www.jamescalhoon.com/tobee2.php

Tried the bule dot (10 grains) too high of a vel. With lead, need to keep it under 2000 fps for leading purposes.

Did some BLC2 at 14 grains @1650 fps. Looks good so far have yet to try and see if it groups worth a darn. Will let ya'll know.

Thanks for all the help so far!!

I have loaded subsonic 223 using WSRM primers, 3.0 - 4.0gr Unique or Titegroup, and a 55gr flat-base soft point bullet. Make sure they don't get stuck in the barrel...
