Reloading Non-Lead
Hello All,
I intend to hunt Fort Hunter Liggett in California soon. I understand that they are a "lead-free zone". In fact, they have moved forward with this prior to the entire state's official change (for certain areas). I have a question about reloading and proving to the folks at FHL that I'm okay. Do they need to see the box, cartridges, or is there another way for them to check? Thanks. DG

Two options come to mind immediately:
1- Load Barnes X-Bullets. They have a very distinctive look, and anyone knowledgeable can look at them and recognize them. It also might not hurt to take along a partial box of Barnes bullets for "show and tell", if needed. 2- Shoot premium factory ammo loaded with Barnes bullets. Federal Premium loads come loaded with the Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullets. That way if there is any question, just show them the box. I recommend the Barnes bullets over other manufacturers' non-lead bullets because other bullets from manufacturers that make traditional lead bullets look the same as their non-lead bullets. I am thinking in particular of the Nosler e-Tip bullets.
