Whats the most cost effective bullet to buy to reload for a glock .45? Can I use regular lead cast wax coated bullets?

People do shoot lead down glock barrels but there is no way to say that it will always be safe, as long as everything else is done correctly reloading wise. You can try it and find out or you can buy other kinds of bullets.

Plated bullets are usually the cheapest option above lead, like Berrys. They can be has as cheap as just over $100 for 1000. Shooting lighter weight bullets like 185s will save you a few bucks over 230s. But if your gun is fixed sight that might make little sense. I only recommend round nose for Berrys because lots of guns have problems with their SWC, HP and FP bullets.

Some people can buy jacketed bullets by Zero for little over plated but you have to order 2-3k at a time, but there is no functional advantage for jacketed at 45acp velocities.

I use Berry's plated 185 gr HBRN with 4.9 gr of Bullseye. Very nice practice round and very accurate in my Glock 36 45 acp. It's a very light shooting round only around 777 fps and cost effective. Good luck.

I have used the Berry bullets and they are fine. They cost just a little more than cast lead but are easier to work with as you are not fighting the lube that is on the finished round. I have fired a lot of cast lead in my G17 and G21sf. While this is not recommended by Glock, I find my pistols do not show more leading than my non-Glock pistols.
The most accurate load I have found for my G21sf is the Zero 200gr lead SWC with 6.3 grains of Universal at OAL of 1.250.
I do clean my Glock barrels after every range shoot, as the lead can build up in any firearm and increase pressure.

Will Glock factory barrels shoot Lead Bullets? Yes and no some Glocks just like any other gun, some shoot lead just as well as a standard barrel gun. Others will start leading almost immediately. The polygonal barrel being designed to increase pressure only increases the problem with the wrong cast bullet, but as I said some Glocks no matter what bullet you use will lead. The main problem guys have with shooting lead is they do not understand that just like reloading it self, you need to understand casting and Lead bullets. I shoot lead in a factory Glock 22 in 40S&W, with no more leading than any other gun I shoot cast in, I cast a harder Bullet for my gun, and it works well for me. But this is my gun, others may not have the same results. If thinking of shooting Lead in a Glock, Read up on cast Bullets, start out like you would any other new load, light and work up, and watch for barrel leading. Leading is only part of the problem that needs attention with shooting lead bullets in a Glock or other Polygonal Barrel or unsupported barrel Gun.

I owned a G21 for a little over 15 years and I shot mucho lead out of the stock barrel. I kept it clean and if I had any jacketed to shoot, as in SD ammo being rotated, then I would shoot up the jacketed ammo first, before the lead.

45acp is a low pressure round so that is the only Glock that I would ever shoot lead out of.

Berrys or Raniers 155 grain copper plated bullets, are by far the most cost effective and useful bullets for the 40 glock.
I have never owned, or loaded for, any other.

I shoot cast in my g21. I have had good experiences with lead in 45 caliber glocks, especially when cast to the right hardness and with the right fit. I can shoot as many of the Missouri Bullet 230gr Softballs I want without leading, when loaded over 5.5gr of AA#2.
