Cabelas millenium finish

Hello All,

Anyone know what the Cabelas millenium finish is? It looks like a poor attempt at parkerizing maybe, my dad has a gun finished that way and it shows rust spots under the barrel like it is coming through the finish. He wants to strip it and refinish it I figured I'd ask before he tried anything, in case someone knew about it.

Thanks,

The matte finish is achieved by applying bluing over a bead blasted finish.

It's not unlike the finish on a Remington 870 Express pump shotgun.
That Express finish tends to form a light surface rust more easily too.
But I still like it being matte because it seems to otherwise better withstand handling, especially in the field.
USFA has a similar finish on their Rodeo single action revolver.
