New member to BP forum

Just joined the BP forum... have caught the bug in ONE day!

I have no self-discipline.

I have not even fired a blackpowder gun, and I love them. What the heck is wrong with me?????

Is it something I said?

I'm feeling real unloved right now.

I think I need a hug.

Welcome Pnolans!!!! You've come to the right place. I tell you I have been shooting since I was probably about 4 years old. Only got into B.P. shooting a few years back. By far it is the most fun form of firearms. You are essentially a hand loader and thats the fun part of it all. Lots of good folks here. And our resident 1860 Colt promoter will be along shortly to recommend a cap n ball revolver for you to buy!!

I guess I could have said more about who I am, as well!

I'm sixty, have only been a gun-nut for about 7 years. Went hunting for the 1st time last season for deer and elk. Smashing success, even though I came home without a deer. Had a good time, helped field-dress another guy's doe.

Got into archery about the same time, and love that.

Have wanted a blackpowder gun for a while. Just bought one yesterday at Wallyworld... a CVA Wolf.

Today, sold my AR15 in order to buy a percussion rifle from Midway USA. A Lyman Deerstalker in 50 Cal. I wanted to be able to actually shoot steel or lead balls.

So, I already have the bug, bad.

Thanks for the welcome. I think I'm really going to enjoy this.

I would probably enjoy one of those "Rendezvous"'s as well! I'm still trying to throw a Tomahawk!

EEEeee Haaaaa!

Well that is awesome! I too sold an AR15 a while back to fund this black powder addiction. Congrats on your purchases, not a thing wrong with either. Lyman / Investarms are outstanding!! My first BP rifle was an inline and while I shoot it some, it doesn't see as much action as my sidelocks!!

Welcome!

You came to the right place.

Make sure you come back with a range report on your new rifles.

Welcome Pnolans! You're among friends here!
So you got a couple of smoke poles now, do ya? They are gonna be fun!!!
But now that you got the bug.... you're gonna want to keep adding... like the rest of us who are also addicted to the smoke...
Might I recommend the 1860 Colt revolver? The perfect companion to any long gun.

Welcome. I think one if the best things about BP shooting is building your own guns. Kits can be bought fairly cheap and the sense of accomplishment from completing a gun is fantastic. I've done two easy kits and highly recommend it. These guys can certainly provide expert advice when needed.

I definitely plan on doing a kit. That will be next on my list.

And as much as I'd love to, I'll wait a little while to get into revolvers. Or, at least that's what I think today.

Tomorrow is another day.

Hey, that rhymes!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Seems like you guys are right. I'm going to like it here.

Later, gators.

If you do a kit...

...which, by the way is a strategy that I endorse, you may want to review the series of videos the Duelist1954 did on his Bucks County smokepole.

They are on this forum and you should be able to search the files.

Lot of good information on the techniques.

Get the right tools and make sure you have a well lighted place to work.

Welcome to the forum. Now I don't know which newbie has to fetch wood and water for the camp.

Anyhow, do check out duelist1954's how-to videos. As for kits, you might want to start with something easy (and good) like the Lyman Great Plains. If you want something more advanced, then Jim Chamber kits are about the best there is. Certainly higher priced, but the quality is there and if something is wrong, Jim will make it right.

The powdered CASCADE works the best and leaves them spot free!!
oh and don't forget the jet dry!!

When me and the wifey started dating she walked in my house and I had one couch, a freshly machined engine block with a piece of plywood on top for a coffee table, and the TV sitting on a milk crate! In the kitchen was an assortment of solo cups and plastic ware........ OH THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!

She sure did, I guess she took me on as her project haha. When she moved in she sure did throw a monkey wrench into my system though. I'm doing well now though. But I have the Brad Paisley song "I'm still a guy" dedicated specifically to her. She lets me get away with, cleaning the guns in the kitchen and melting wax's on the stove and such. But when it comes to building motors in the living room and parking my motorcycle in the dining room that where she draws the line.

There is nothin wrong with parking your motorcycle in the dining room..I would do it if I could get it up the steps and round the corner!

Unless my wife saw me tryin it, in which case it would go back in the barn where it is now...

If
1. I had a motorcycle
2. Didn't live in an apartment where some sissy would complain

I would park it right there. Maybe even the Bedroom.

I do have my bows and geetar hanging on the walls, my ultrasonic case cleaner in my guest bathroom, my reloading table and gun cleaning table in my spare bedroom. My bicycle and the trainer for it are in the dining room.
No pictures on the walls yet. Hm....

I don't believe there's a woman who could put up with me. Wore two of them out trying ....

Dogs are good. They like you and don't talk back.
