Just got back form the local gun store and would like to compare prices with some of you in other parts of the country.
1 pound of H-4831 100 #11 precussion caps 500 Large pistol primers Total $42.79 The powder was $24.75 Primers were $12.00 Caps were $2 Rest was tax I wanted 500 Large rifle primers but he was out but he did give me 85 of them to Hold me over till next week when he gets more primers in. Try that from a catlaog store or Wal-Mart! I am not complaining just wanting to compare. The #11 caps? I just love to play with my .36 Navy Colt and FFFG.............nope no Pyrodex here. |

You should be complaining.
I pay $17 at the most for 1,000 large pistol primers. That's Federal; Winchester and CCI are cheaper. 1 lb. of H-4831 would be about $17 also. This is NW Kentucky. |

The powder is about $8 to $10 more than around here, primers are almost double, caps are priced about right. But the tax!! 10.5%! Man you guys down there are getting ripped, that's even higher than New Yawk City!

yea they sock it to you with sales tax but the state income tax is not too high, and very few homeowners pay property tax, so I guess its a trade off. Also the sales tax on food is in a lower bracket as is medicine.

H-4831 is $15.79 per pound
#11 Caps are $22.76 per 1000 and Magnum are $24.31 per 1000 (CCI) Large Pistol primers are $13.30 (CCI), $14.99 (Rem), $14.10 (Fed) and $13.39 (Win) per 1000 And we have NO tax! So it would come to $24.72

Hodgdon powder runs about $15 per #
Primers run from $13 for Winchester to $15-16 for CCI and Federal-per 1,000. I bought 1000 CCI #11 caps for $22.95 at the last show. Should last awhile Funniest thing I've noticed is that primers and powder run for very different costs in different parts of the US. Here, Alliant and AA powder are the cheapest @ around $13.50per #, and IMR and Hodgdon the most expensive at anywhere from $15.50-$17 per #. In primers, Winchester is usually several $ cheaper, and Federals or CCI are the most expensive. I see very few Remington or Federal primers. Almost 60% of what's at local gunshows is Winchester. |
