HAWK 982 accessories
I'm new here and would like some suggestions for adding stuff to my 982. I know it's an 870 knock off, but not all the parts fit exactly. I am interested in a recoil pad, mag extention, sling setup, and a light. Any suggestions?

Congratulations on your new purchase. I have one myself. I would advise you replace the mag spring with a Wolff extra power spring. I also replaced the follower with a stainless steel one from Brownells.

The only part that doesn't fit exactly is a replacement forend. The Hawk slide tube is slightly larger in dia than an 870.
For a mag extension, a +1 from Wilson or Vang Comp is the way to go. A +2 from any mfg will extend past the muzzle. For a sling mount, the Wilson can be ordered with a sling plate. Don't know about a recoil pad, but assume a Limbsaver for an 870 would fit. As far as I know, the Hawk pad is better than a regular 870 pad. For a light, a LaserLyte tri-rail and a Streamlight TRL-1 is the way to go. |

I'll look into the extra strong spring. I noticed that even though it is chambered for 3" mag, it doesn't like to cycle the last round. 2 & 3/4 no problem. I suspected that the spring might not be strong enough. Thanks for the sugg.

The best things you can add have nothing to do with parts - lessons and ammo/range time

Thanks, Have lots of range time & training as I carried both the 870 & 500 in the coarse of my duties in the Coast Guard.
