front bead on '09 870 HD

Hi, recently bought a brand spankin new 870 Express, 18" barrel/7 round magazine. It has the front bead on a small raised base. I have my eyes on a Meprolight Tru-Dot tritium bead. I see it comes in 2 thread types, and wasnt sure which was for my gun, or if the bead was even threaded in there. Can anyone give me some advice on selecting the right bead and how difficult installation would be? I do plenty of work on my guns, but wouldnt be comfortable trying to tap a brand new shotgun barrel.

Nate,

Newer Express guns have press-fit beads. They are not threaded.

That being said there is an XS model tritium front bead that installs by epoxying over the existing front bead. http://www.xssights.com/store/shotgun.html

Look to the lower right of the page for the XS Big Dot tritium bead.

You'll need the one for the "Remington Pedestal Barrel"

From all reports I've read they are sturdy and work great, Never personally used one myself though.

bummer, the XS is twice the price. Know of any hi-viz style front beads that will fit my application?

I have this Hi-Viz on my 870:

The M-300 model fits my 12ga 870 w/ Express Barrel.

The XS epoxy big dot sights are $60, but they are without a doubt the best replacement bead sights you will ever get in your life. For $60 the quality and durability of this sights will probally even outlast your shotgun barrel if installed right, which is painfully easy.

I have one installed on my 870

yeah that xs is pretty mean. But for $30 more I could just go ghost ring, which I like alot.

Nate, Apples and oranges... The ghost ring set up may obscure more field of view when mounted then are willing to give up. Just my opinion and YMMV... I personally would only enjoy GR sights on a long distance target rifle be it for targets or critter killing...
