Glock 19 on layaway.

Decided to give layaway a try. Ordered online from Buds. It was so easy a caveman could do it.

Can't wait to get it in. Possibly my future ccw?

Next big decision.. mossberg 500 or remington 870 tactical.

My wife's put over 1200 rounds through her G19...600 of which were out at Front Sight, the NV based shooting institute in their intensive four day Defensive Handgun Course...minimal cleaning and absolutely 100% reliability...not a single malfunction. For the first 500 rounds, when new, I refused to clean it, to test its reliability...no issues there either. It's not her carry piece, (she's got a S&W 637 for that), but shoots it extremely well over our home grown defensive course. Accuracy at 10 yds is very good, indeed...I get 1" clusters slow fire from a Weaver Stance...that's as good as I can do with my eyes and age. Hope you enjoy it. Rod BTW, I've had good luck with three guns from Budd's. No problems.....

Congrats on the G19; it's one of the best handguns on the planet IMO...

Go with whichever safety system you feel more comfortable with. That's the biggest operational difference in the two---both are great.

As plouffedaddy noted, your choice might boil down to tang safety (Mossberg) vs crossbolt safety (Remington). Also, if it's important to you, the Mossberg has an aluminum alloy receiver, whereas the Remington comes with a steel one. If it were me, I'd opt for the one I could find the cheapest.

I have the Mossberg 500 and so far so good. I've never shot the Remington so I don't know how they compare, but the Mossberg has a ton of upgrades, rails, grips, etc. that you can customize it with. Just go to Amazon and type in "Mossberg 500" and you'll see for yourself.

I'm doing the opposite, replacing my G19 with a Walther PPQ

Purchased new... already have a PPQ and its great.

As for the 870 or mossberg...which one is more reliable? Plan on using as HD.

I've had both. Both run fine. See the comments above. It is a personal preference.

Personally I'm a 870 kind of guy. With that disclaimer out of the way there is no difference in reliability. Both are uber reliable. The only thing you'd have to keep an eye on is the 870 Express models sometimes have rough chambers that cause cheap practice ammo to stick (easily fixed with a little steel wool). I polish the chamber with steel wool before I even send a round down range so I've never had an issue with any of them. 500s and 590s are great too.

A couple years back I was dove hunting with a bunch of guys, and I was using my dad's Sweet Sixteen. One of the guys asked me if I wanted to try out his 500, since he had never fired an A5 type shotgun. I didnt want to give him his shotgun back. I went straight to Shooters Express and bought a 500, and never regretted it. Went back to the field the next day, three doves flew by me. I pulled up and dropped all three the first time I shot the gun. To me the shotgun just points well. It stays loaded in the safe in the br for home defense at all times.
