i'm carrying around the same 380 for the last 25+ years, the amt 380 backup. it works for me, not any bigger than some johnny come latelys, maybe slightly heavier but that just means better control than the new lesser weight guns made today that people complain about.
my son has a new 380 s&w bodyguard he seems to like.

Can't believe probably the oldest and the best 380 out there the Walther PPK or PPK/S is not on the list. It works in a holster or a pocket, accurate, comfortable to shoot and dependable. Some of these 380s you would be doing good to to hit a bull in the butt at 15 feet and no wonder the recoil is painful. If it's not comfortable to shoot, you won't practice enough to get proficient and that goes for what ever it is.

I'll vote "none of the above".

The Keltec and Ruger are essentially the same gun. I don't like the trigger on either of them.

If it were on the list, I'd vote for either the SIG P-238 or Taurus TCP. I've had both (still have the Taurus).

None of the above for me as well. The only one on that list that I would consider on that list is the Bersa. Haven't shot one, but they get fantastic reviews.

For me. I choose the PPK (although I used to own a Sig P232 which was also nice but kind of fat with the factory rubber grips). If I could find a nice Colt 1908 (mid 20's or newer) for reasonable money I'd be all over that too. (have a 1903 in .32acp and it's one of the nicest auto loaders I've ever owned).

The list isn't complete by a long shot and most of us know that. It so happens the poster either leans toward the newer generation of smaller, lighter, polymers, or he just lacks alot of knowledge and appreciation for so many of the older .380s so they arn't listed.

The problem that most of us find with the newer polymer guns is that they are great to carry but just suck to shoot. Really, if they don't weight in close to 20 onces they are just not fun to shoot at all and there really isn't any way around the physics of it except to mitigate light weight with a larger frame which helps some, or go steel and add some weight but keep the small size like the P238, (my choice).

Bersa CC .380 (but I pack a Glock.)

Why?

Big enough to HIT FAST AND ACCURATE WITH yet small enough to conceal!

If you can't shoot fast, one handed, and hit with your CCW gun, you severely limit yourself.

I really like my LCP and so much so I just purchased a 2nd one for my other pocket. 200+ rounds though my first LCP and no problems at all! I have a PPK and like the looks, feel, and shooting it but overall it has too many FTE, FTF issues for me to deem reliable. My LCP has been 100% and is so easy to carry.

I'm the original poster and I started this thread...

in order to get others' opinions regarding .380 pocket pistols. I have and carry a
Baby Glock 9mm as my primary sidearm. The .380 is meant to be my "compromise gun" and a backup weapon. Those are the ONLY purposes the .380 serve for me.

The poster said nothing about pockets at all RickE, he said concealed. There are alot of guys who will never pocket carry. I can't stand anything that heavy in my pockets, I don't like my car keys in my pockets. I carry IWB and like it that way.

Those Berettas are just fine, the .32 isn't a .380 so it's not really fitting the question, but the Cheetah does and carries cancealed very nicely and comfortably.

lcpiper I fully agree with you, especially when you say:

but the Cheetah does and carries cancealed very nicely and comfortably.
I carried a Beretta 85 for about one years (concealed) and it was comfortable and invisible.

Kahr P380

You left out the best pocket pistol, the Kahr P380. The best budget pocket pistol is the Taurus. Stainless steel is important to me, living in a hot humid area.

Kahr CM9/PM9

+1 for Squibb's post, the Kahr CM9/PM9 beats them all if you want a pocket pistol but don't need a micro-gun. Good small size, fits most pockets, nice to shoot. Cheaper ammo.

Sig 238

Sig 238. I'm 53 and until last week the last I handled a hand gun was in the USMC in the mid 70's. Kids are grown and I told the Mrs (who does not like guns) that I am getting a hand gun. I am a Paramedic and my partner is a gun collector and trains regularly at Gunsight. We work closely with Police which brings me to the point that I have quite a lot of people whom I can ask questions and advise. I've read/researched online and in magazines till I had enough. I initially wanted a .380, but since this would be my first purchase I went with the intent to buy a 9mm or 40 S&W Beretta Px4 Storm sub compact. Beautiful weapon that feels right when held, but too big to carry in summer clothing. I handled the Sig238, Kahr PM9. Ruger LC9 and a Beretta Px4 9mm sub compact. The Kahr was too expensive, but a good size and weight. The LC9 looks and feels great for the under $400 asking price. Made in the USA ! But, I would have bought that Sig 238 if not for the price ($617). Light, looks fantastic, small and slipped into my right front short pocket looking way less obvious than a wallet and not any heavier. A perfect pocket weapon. I bought the LC9 last week, but my next purchase will be the Sig 238. For a little over $500 I got a new LC9, a years range time (unlimited), hard plastic case and cleaning equipment. It is small (6") light and thin. It fits in my short pocket, but not like the Sig. I mean the Sig could be dropped in without a pocket holster and felt fine. I'll use both a pocket and IWB holster for the LC9.

Voted for the P3AT because once I stopped limp-wristing mine it was a great little gun. My real vote is for a Sig P238, because that is what I carry now and I like it more than the Keltec - it's the gun I shoot best with, too. For over twice the price of the Keltec, it should be good!
