High Point jcp .40 S&W thoughts

I purchased this, brand new, at an auction yesterday. Reviews online seem to be favorable on accuracy, but not on looks. Any thoughts? Also, I can't seem to find any updated pricing info for this gun. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine works fine.
Here's i describe one....Big, ugly, heavy, accurate, reliable, good warranty,Best cheap heavy 40S&W you will probably ever own.

Oh yeah did i mention magazine sticks out too far, and should have been a double stack

I have 2000+ rounds through my JCP. I had an issue with magazine and found out the ones with the orange follower work better. I even used mine for USPSA a few times.

It would sell for under $200, top of the market. Maybe slightly over $200 if it has the laser.

Thanks

Thanks for such quick responses. Sounds like an accurate gun that will last me a long time. I would love to trade for a decent revolver, but if the price tops out at $200 new, I don't think anyone will be eager to trade. Looks like I have a new home defense pistol. And an excuse to start reloading my own shells.

For what it is it's a decent gun... Cheap, ugly, poor design, poor quality, heavy, oversized, gun for those who can't afford a Glock.

I must disagree with the poor quality statement. Not finely finished for sure, but the reliability, and strength shown in the several "Hi-Point tourture test" videos on youtube attest to much better than "poor" quality. As well as the very good accuracy reported by most owners, and proven here on TFL in the posted videos by WildBill45.

I'd like to see how a gun of "better" quality costing four times as much would do in this particular Hi-Point destruction attempt.

Sounds like you want one Tex?

The 9mm pistol isn't bad, if it had the trigger safety would look like a Glock. The carbines are a blast to shoot!
The .40 & .45 pistols are huge and a pretty good weapon even when not loaded.

I like their carbines. Just not wild about the pistolas

I'm actually looking for a good deal on a 9mm pistol to run some of my own tests on it. If you know of any for sale, send em my way....

I just may have to eat my words.

I will admit, after the vids I saw on youtube by Iraqveteran8888 this pistol looks almost indestructible and is equally as accurate as glocks. But alas, I would much rather have a .357 mag or .44 mag with a long barrel. I will use it proudly until I can find the right trade.

Forget the trade, you won't get that much out of a used Hi-Point anyway. Just save your pocket change, and mad money for the revolver. Even the much maligned Hi-Point is worthy of my #1 rule.

poor design, poor quality
I disagree on both. The design is perfect if you are looking for the cheapest reliable semi-auto pistol action. HP was when they designed and you should be too if you are buying one. How one measure quality can vary, but several dealers have told me they have a very low return rate. I have not heard many stories of them failing unexpectedly. Their warranty is probably the best in the business, so if there is a problem, like a bad mag or improper assembly, you don't have to worry about it.

I am always looking for them at estate/garage sales.

Around me they go for about ten dollars less than a new one which is about $30 over MSRP.
